I was able to become pregnant twice without much trouble, no trying, it just happened. The first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at almost 8 weeks. As soon as we were able to become pregnant again, we did. The second pregnancy ended up being a heterotopic pregnancy. Which means I had an embryo in my uterus and one in a fallopian tube. How we handled it all depended on the uterine pregnancy. After a couple weeks of monitoring, we found out that the baby in my uterus wasnt growing and I would end up miscarrying it. So the doctors said the best plan of action would be a pair of methotrexate injections to eliminate the tubal pregnancy. My doctor swore up and down that it would not affect my ability to become pregnant in the future. I had the injections in June. I waited the recommended 3 months, and my periods had already returned to normal. Now it is February and I haven't concieved. I know it isnt a long time, but to me and my body it is.

Does anyone have experience with TTC after the methotrexate shot?

Hey Jesse, Hopping over from my thread. I'm so sorry for your losses. I did not experience this myself, but I did some research for you. It does seem like rates are a bit lower after the shot. I'm seeing a few sources say 50% pg in a year and 60-70% in two years (but those who didn't had issues before). I found one article that mentioned a lower oocyte yield for a year after the shot, but the effect is temporary and disappears after that. I also read that 70-80% of women have open tubes after, which is great considering so many lose a tube from an ectopic. It seems to me that maybe there are some temporary effects, but as long as everything checked out after, with time you'll be just as fertile as before. You should hop on over to my ttc #1 AL thread. One of my ttc buddies from before my loss, bee, had a cervical ectopic and is in a similar spot. Pg right away the first time, and now it seems to be taking much longer. Take care of yourself and hope to see you around :hugs:

Thank you lesondemavie. I have read such mixed things. Like I said, my doctor was adamant that it would have zero effect. And a lot of the forums I have read backed that up. But at the same time, I have found the same things you have saying that it does mess you up for a time. I am just getting so frustrated.

Hey, Jessesgirl. I had an ectopic in November 2014 that I had the MTX shot for. My tube ruptured a few days later so I ended up losing my left tube also. We waited quite awhile before TTC again because I had a really hard recovery (emotionally and physically). We finally began TTC in Oct. 15 ( so almost a full year after the ectopic) and I was quite shocked that things weren't happening "right away". Out of 4 pregnancies I had always been pregnant in the first month!

So, BFN in Oct. Then took a break for Nov. and Dec. because we were traveling. January back at it and BFN. I ended up going to my OBGYN because I was discouraged and worried since it had it always happened on the first try but he told us to just keep trying and he wasn't worried. I got my BFP in February and everything's looking good so far. Hang in there <3
