Hi everyone,

Im a newby here! , looking to see if there is anyone who is in a similar position to me, and even those who arent! :flower:
Im 27 and my partner has just turned the big 30.
We have been doing the whole "see what happens" thing for over a year (probably closer to 1.5 yrs now actually) and I have been off BC all that time. Only in the last 3 months have we really started to get serious about trying for a baby, the world of ttc is very new to me and iv been lurking on a lot of different forums picking up ideas/tips and learning all the acronyms lol

The month of oct is the first month I have actively tried tracking my cycle and planning out when we should be bd etc. AF is due arround the 14th this month though On odd occasions It can be irregular being late by as much as 1 week - 10 days. (makes it hard not to get your hopes up!!)

Iv never had any tests done and havent had any health issues in the past so we will just see how things go over the next few months and re-assess then

Looking forward to exploring this site and getting to know some of you!

Hey there,

I'm also from NZ :)

Id definitely recommend you see your GP for some tests, especially if your cycles aren't regular. As long as you're having regular intercourse (at least 3 times a week throughout your cycle) you should be pregnant within 12 months.

We had our first appointment with fertility associates in September

Hey Sarah, nice to see another NZ'er! , thanks for the reply :)
How long were you trying before you went to see F.A? what did they reccommend?

thank you i think we will definately get down to the Dr's soon if nothing happens. I think we will try this month and dec and then start fresh next year by getting some tests done if no luck.

No signs of AF which is due today but as mentioned it can be a little bit irregular on odd occasions so will take that with a grain of salt.

We went to a bbq last night, 2 out of the 4 couples there were pregnant and the others already had children. It was a little hard to bury those feelings of extreme jealousy and feeling a little left out when they were all sitting arround discussing babies and pregnancy , it makes it harder when people are constantly saying to you "its your turn" "when are you guys having kids" , I mostly just laugh it off because we havent been open about telling people we are struggling and im sure they would be understanding.
Anyway feeling sorry for my self/vent now over :)

Time to get on with the week !

You too :)

Umm we were trying for 6 months before I went to my GP. She referred us to the fertility specialist at the hospital. We saw him in July but he was rubbish. He said I was ovulating when I wasn't. So we went back to our GP and decided to then pay to see Fertility Associates. We saw that specialist in September. We'd been trying 10 months then but actually lied and said 12. It wouldn't have mattered because I wasn't ovulating and he prescribed provera to bring on my period and Clomiphene to bring on ovulation.

I think their recommendations would vary a lot on what is the problem. From when we went to the GP to getting Clomiphene, it took 4 months. Mainly because we wasted our time with the public system doctor.

Before we went to the specialist i had blood tests, ultrasounds and my DH had a semen anaylsis. If you're going to go through the public system, try and get as many of those tests done before you go. It'll save heaps of time.

Our plan is 2 more cycles of Clomiphene and if still no pregnancy switch to Letrozole or injectables and IUI. But my doctor gave us a 50% chance of conceiving in 3 cycles. My last cycle I didn't even ovulate.

Are you tracking your ovulation at all? I got some cheap OPKs from trade me. There's a website called baby4you.co.nz and they sell BBT thermometers and a whole heap of other stuff

That's rough :( I know what that's like and it's so hard. Especially when a lot of people take it for granted.

I hope you aren't too close to Hamner and managed to get a full night's sleep last night. We just felt the 7.5 and lost power for a few hours.

Sounds like going private was definately the way to go! . Omg how did the original doctor think you were ovulating when you werent, bet you were bummed about wasting time with that.

Thank you for those tips I will definately take that on board, if we end up going down that route ill probably kick my self for waiting so long to get the ball rolling, I suppose a bit of it is being scared that there might be something really wrong and it will end up being a huge long journey.
Time will tell i suppose.

Fingers crossed for you hun that the clomiphene does its job. Where abouts are you at in your cycle at the mo?

We are in the north island (taranaki) so luckily far away from where it was centred but still felt a good shake + tsunami warnings were pretty scary!

p.s thank you for that link, iv only just started tracking in the last few months so will def check it out
:flower:

Yup I'm definitely glad we went privately. Our first appointment cost $275 but we aren't being monitored so it's $65 for 3 months worth of Clomiphene. It's dumb that we have to pay at all, but cheaper than it could be.

The original doctor also lost my husband's SA results too! I wasn't impressed. We probably wouldn't have any progress by now if we were still going publicly.

If you're worried, I'd suggest talking to your GP. I was initially a little scared because I didn't want to know if anything was wrong. But then the more I thought about it I decided that firstly, it didn't matter whether I knew what was going on or not, it was still happening to me. And secondly, if I knew what was wrong they could help to fix it.

I'm currently CD 20 and I ovulated on Saturday! I didn't ovulate on 50mg so I'm just excited I ovulated on 100mg! Hopefully it'll end up being a BFP but if not I'm sure it's just a matter of time. Where are you in your cycle?

We are in the Manawatu so definitely felt it here and lost power. We've felt a few aftershocks. Pretty scary!
