Today is CD16, this is our 5th cycle TTC. We used Preseed this time, and I just started using a Progest cream.

I'm looking for to hear from others with a large age gap about their journey TTC and how long it took, things you may have used to help, maybe even a buddy to keep in contact with during this time.

I am in my 20's, he is in his 40's. I have heard that large age gaps with one partner in their 40's will take a lot longer to conceive, however I have also heard of the instances where they got pg quickly. I'd like to hear some real life stories, and just stuff to keep me hopeful :) Trying for our first!

As a general rule a males age is only semi relative to any potential male infertility issues. While it's a widely accepted rule that women in their late 30's and early 40's are more likely to have egg conditions, sperm conditions can effect any male, at any age and can change fairly rapidly. Motility and Morphology can be effected by environmental factors as well as genetics. The simple answer is to ask for a sperm analysis, it's simple, painless, fast and would tell you if you'll have any male factors to overcome.

Hi! My Husband and I are 16 years apart, so i'm in the same boat! We have been TTC since last year in October. No luck yet, But I was on BCP previously for 10 years so it took my body most of that time just to level out again.

We haven't gotten any testing done yet. DH wants to keep TTC naturally for at least a year before we do anything more since it took so long for my body to get back to normal.

Hi!! :hi:
My sweetheart and I are 13 years apart; I'm 33 and he's 46. I'm definitely with you regarding the concerns about possible fertility issues for a partner in his 40's, so I was very glad to read Ariannda's encouraging information! Even though my guy and I still live apart at the moment, we both feel that we've waited long enough to try for our first. Officially will start TTC this July!! :happydance:
Good luck, everyone!!

Hi .... So glad I found your post. My husband and I have a 15 year gap. I am 30 and he is 45. We have been together for 13 years and we have one child that is 10 years old so at that stage his fertility was obviously still fine as we conceived without even trying. It has been really stressing for me because we have been actively trying for 9 months now but I have actually been off bc for more than 2 years now. It makes it hard to ttc as men of that age also does not have the libido of 20 year olds if you know what I mean. We decided to get some tests done and on my part everything is normal. I have regular cycles and I ovulate normally. He had a sperm analysis done and he has low sperm count. He has 7.5 million sperm per millileter and it is supposed to be 15 million. His total count is 20.5 million and it is supposed to be 40 million. His motility is good at 63% and morphology is also good. The doctor said that it is normal with age and could also be due to bad lifestyle choices. Lack of exercising and bad eating habits. I have heard that there is not necessarily a biological clock for men however their sperm quality and quantity can decrease with age (it can happen to younger men as well). The female factor is more important because a women is born with all the eggs that she will ever had, so if it is finished then its finished and nothing can be done to produce more eggs. Men on the other hand continue to produce sperm throughout their lives. What I would recommend it to get your husband tested with a sperm analysis. If there is any problems regarding the count, motility or morphology then you can use a good multivitamin, one that has a good amount of folic acid, zinc, l'arginine and I think Vitamin E. You can also try maca root as it helps with sperm production. Just bear in mind that new sperm takes about 71 days to produce so whatever changes you make with regards to lifestyle, diet, etc will only take effect after about 3 months. You can even start DH on a good multivitamin regardless.

I know this is an old post, but maybe we can bring it back to life...
I'm 33, my DH is 15 years older than me. We were NTNP for 5months and now We have been actively TTC for the last 4 months. Unfortunately no BFP yet. I am healthy and o'ing as per all my tests. My DH is avoiding an SA, but if this month is a fail, then he is going to do it next month for sure.

My Dr. did put me on Clomid this cycle. He says it will help make my eggs nice and ripe, and I also may drop an extra egg so I give DH a better chance! Hopefully this plan works. But if you talk to your dr. about your concerns with the fact that time is an issue when your partner is older, he/she may waive the traditional wait a year til starting clomid rule.

GL to you! :dust:

Hi LilRu - My DH and I are about 16 years apart. I'm 28 and he is 45. We have been TTC for over a year now with no luck. Turns out I was not Ovulating on my own, so I am on Round 3 with Clomid. If you're Ovlating on your own and your egg quality is good, you shouldn't need Clomid, but exciting that your Dr is willing to help before you've hit a year of trying!!

I wish you luck!!!

Thanks! Do you know if the clomid is getting you to ovulate? Hope so!
GL to you too!!:dust:
