Preemie/Newborn: TummyTub is highly recommend for premature babies and is used in NICUs worldwide! The therapeutic benefits are undisputed in that it mimics the womb and recreates that experience which is soothing and a great stress reliever for preemies and newborns. The TummyTub is used in many hospitals as the first bath a baby ever receives because it is proven to be a better alternative to the standard hospital bath which raises heart rate and breathing patterns. The goal is to relax the newborn and eliminate stress and only the TummyTub can accomplish this! Because newborns do not get dirty, bathing is mainly for relaxation, calming, and also bonding with the parents. Babies of this age often fall asleep while in the TummyTub. Experts tell us that it is safe to bathe the baby even when the umbilical cord is still attached. Some midwives recommend using an herbal bath tea or a blend of almond oil and sea salt to promote healing of the umbilical cord and/or circumcision. Pictures & Video of this age group.

Infant (up to 6 months): The therapeutic benefits of the TummyTub are applicable from birth to 6 months. These include easing colic and indigestion, relieving nighttime fussiness, and calming baby by recreating the womb environment. Babies absolutely adore it and often suck on their parents finger and drift off into space remembering their previous watery home! By 12-16 weeks, babies have more neck control and can support themselves better against the sides of the tub. This gives parents two hands free for washing. As babies grow they have plenty of room to splash and play while being bathed. Some babies as young as 2-3 months try to stand in the TummyTub due to the buoyancy of the water. This is normal and not a bad thing--studies in the Netherlands show that TummyTub babies often develop early motor skills. Babies can gently be seated when serious bath time needs to begin. I don't have one although my cousin swears by hers as her LO suffers with colic and she said its the only thing that soothes him! Apart from that I know nothing about them x

I had one. It was great for my first, as she was very colicky, and lying down in the bath was hard. It wasn't so useful for Arthur, mainly because he was fine in the big bath, and he was a big baby, so grew out of it quickly.

I've never seen these before. interesting! I'll be stalking this thread, although DD is past that stage. However, that bit about newborns not getting dirty? :) not my newborn, who had sick and poop flying about for about 3 months!

my baby was refluxy puked and pooped everywhere :haha:

i have BIG babies so dont know how long theyd use -tub for

We loved ours, though he outgrew it quite fast. For a few months it the best thing ever though.

We absolutely loved ours, LO outgrew it quite fast as well, hes a chunky wee thing!

Kinda just looks like a bucket to me? I've seen them before but wondered how you keep their heads supported while trying to wash?

It's easier once they can hold their head up... At that point, because of the way they fit into the tub, they're completely self-supporting. It's awesome.

I used it a few times but he never seemed to like it, now its just an expensive bucket I use to fill up his regular baby bath (which he loves!)

I use a baby hammock and that, in my opinion, is way easier and more comfortable but I know lots swear by these tummy tubs

My first hated it and haven't used it for the second. Ours became the (very expensive!) sick bucket when we had norovirus!

We bought one, and use it a few times. It was good for helping LO when she had trapped wind.
Now, it's used as our cold water steriliser :haha:
