I've read that pregnant women should avoid tunafish. I am currently 10DPO and I am craving tunafish. I know I'm probably being paranoid but do you think eating some tunafish could affect my chances of getting pg?

One of my first cravings was for fish.

You can have tuna but I think it's no more than 2 or 3 fresh portions a week or 5 tins roughly. Who really eats that much anyway?

I was reading that too. Things affect me more because I'm so tiny so I'm paranoid about eating it at all. But oh well....I sooooooooooo want some so I'm gonna eat it. I doubt I'm pg this cycle anyway.

Thanks girls!

I think it's only because of the possible mercury levels in it. I really doubt it would do you any harm. So much stuff we are told we can or can't eat but I just go with what I feel like.

I'm eating tuna with mac n cheese right now. I apologize if that grosses anyone out. mmmm!

Hey hun! Well, I wouldn't worry about it while TTC, but when you are preg you're supposed to only eat LIGHT tuna. This is because the light tuna is made from smaller tuna fish, and the smaller the type of fish, the lower the mercury level. And they're right above on the weekly portions. So just eat light tuna if you're worried about it! I had to look all this up because I was craving shellfish and wanted to know that it was safe (it is). Hope that helps!

i was told 2 tins a week :)

Yep, according to my pre-preg nutrition book, 2 tins a week and it is to do with mercury levels. Have banned the hubby from eating too much and he ain't best pleased cos all the protein in tuna is really good for muscle-building!

good signs! i love that!
good luck! and yes i said to a BFP for justme00 !!!

I don't think it will affect you trying to get pregnant. The reason you need to limit it during pregnancy is because of the mercury levels in the fish, shouldn't affect TTC at all. Good luck I hope you get your :bfp: this month!

about 2 servings a week while pregnant is fine, but more than that is bad for the risk of mercury
