Hi I am 12 plus a few days pregnant with twins and had our dating scan a few days ago where they checked the nuchal measurements. We were totally shocked to find out one twin has a high reading of 5.5! waiting for blood results tomorrow and seeing a specialist. Id like to hear peoples experiences good and bad of their outcomes from a high nucal. I believe its very likely to be a chromosone issue or heart issue. Really worried if the one twin is very poorly what impact this would have with the other twin. Scary times. Thanks in advance for any experiences shared.

I have no experience in this area, but didn't want to read and run.

I'm sorry you are going through this. Try to stay at ease until final results are in. Even a slight positional variation can cause massive differences in the measurements. There are a few more steps before anything will be confirmed.

Hoping for the best for you and your little beans!

I went through this 5weeks ago my baby girl had a measurement of 4.3 and a small nasal bone i had a 1/9 chance of a chromosome abnormality we opted for a cvs which came back with a clean bill on chromosomes so now were waiting for out anomaly scan on the 2nd to rule out heart defects which heart murmurs run in both sides of the family so really wouldn't be all that surprising

Thanks for the replies so our bloods are back twin A has 1/5 chance of downs, 1/5 for Edwards or patau. Twin B has 1/1492 of downs and 1/38000 of edwards or patau. With such a massive difference between the twins we are not hopeful :-/ we cant even have the cvs as the two placenta's are too close. We chose to have the private non invasive test which costs a lot and money we dont really have but we need to know what we are faced with and it is 99% accurate so in 7 days approx we will have an answer. We are thankful to at least have one healthy twin and fingers crossed it stays that way

So sorry to hear you're going through this. Sending big hugs. We were high risk for downs this pregnancy, NT was fine but my Papp-a results were extremely low. We did the non invasive testing and even though it was a huge expense it was incredibly important for us to know either way. The results took 7 days and baby got a clean bill of health. I really hope this is the same for you. Good luck x

Hang in there your odds arnt so different from what mine were mizzyb. There is literally an 80% chance that baby is healthy you have literally a 4x higher chance that this baby is healthy than that it has an abnormality. That means if you delivered 5babies tomorrow 4 would be healthy! Do not lose hope!

Thanks I will try to be hopeful but the consultant and a seperate midwife both said it was highly likely to be chromosone issue :-/ they said it was very doubtful to be normal due to my age and the size of nuchal and the difference between the two twins score, you would have thought they would be similar otherwise. But yes we still have to hold on to a bit of hope indeed and it certainly helps hearing positive outcomes. Just cant wait for the Nipt test results, I will be sure to update when I get them x

Good luck - I hope it works out for you all.

I really hope everything works out for the best. Hugs mama!

Ds had a large NT measurement and the harmony test (non invasive) came back clear. But I can see how the difference in results between twins is an added indication something might be wrong. Waiting for results is torture. Hugs.

Good luck. Twin pregnancies are scary enough without added worry. :hugs:

I am soooo sorry to hear...I am also sorry to say that since you have two separate indications - a very thick nuchal fold, and bloods, I would expect the results to be disappointing and prepare for the worst (I am a bit of a pessimist, but I think in this case, it's realistic). It must be incredibly difficult, especially with twins. I can't even imagine:cry:

Septie that's not necessarily true i had a 1/9 chance of the same issue and a high nuchal and my little girl is healthy

Hey there, results are back and I can hardly believe I am saying this but results are back and negative!!! The consultant had basically told us it would be one of these! Luckily I have read enough positive stories from high nuchals and I am one of them.. for now anyway, of course it could be other issues like heart issues but we are one step closer to a healthy baby! :) oh and one or more is definately a boy as y chromosone detected!
