First off, is it okay if I first posted this in a different section? I don't mean to be rude, but after posting I realized that I might get a few more answers over here.
Secondly, I've been reading some of these threads over the last few weeks and I always want to cry. Sometimes out of sadness, but often because there is so much hope hanging around here. I need some hope in my life.
I have a question. I hope you can help me (us!)...
In the last month husband has had two SA's (we should have done them sooner, but we kept thinking "maybe this month, maybe this month"), both with very different results. We just picked up the 2nd one this afternoon. It's Friday, so we won't hear from the doctor until after the weekend... After the 1st test came in we were told that it looked as if we would have to see a urologist (so far the assumption has been that I'm the one with the reproductive issues). Husband and I decided to go ahead with a 2nd test before going to see the urologist, just in case, and the numbers are so different!
1st SA:
Volume: 2.1
PH: 8.0
Non-motile: 73%
Non-progressive motility: 14%
Progressive motility: 13%
Sperm count: 277.5 (mil/mL)
Normal sperm morphology: 52%
Viability: 20%
2nd SA:
Volume: 2.7
PH: 7.5
Non-motile: 32%
Non-progressive motility: 2%
Progressive motility: 66%
Sperm count: 143.5 (mil/mL)
Normal sperm morphology: 45%
Germ Cells: 1 (out of 100)
The only thing that they really had in common was the Semen Viscosity, which was labeled "MKDLY INCREASED AB NORMAL" on both tests.
I'm just not sure what to do with these numbers. Do we trust the second SA test (66% progressive motility, up from 13%!)... could the first one be a fluke; perhaps his sperm is fine and the only problem is the viscosity (the thickness. Apparently it's not liquefying in time)?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, ladies.
