Good Evening. I am new to this web site. I am 30 weeks as of this past monday. I began to notice that my glucose levels are beginning to rise drastically after eating. I am a type 2 diabetic and have been so for the past 11 years. I have a 2 1/2 year old at home and my levels were great that whole pregnancy. Spoke with my endocrinologist on Wednesday and she adjusted my insulin intake (currently on an insulin pump) and it is not working. I'm beginning to get worried. I'm considered hi risk because of my diabetes and previous miscarriages. Hopefully my OB will be able to tell me something at my appt tomorrow morning. Has anyone else had this experience?

Monique, I am a type 2 as well about the same number of weeks as you. I started having some real problems around the 28 week point. I am on 2 shots of nololin a day and 5 shots with a nololog flex pen at meal times. My insulin to carb ratio has been adjusted 3 times and my novolin has been upped three times. No doubt about it, the third trimester is the hardest!

I had gestational diabetes when I had my son and the last 6 weeks of that pregnancy my blood sugars were quite bad.

It is very stressful isn't it? I added up the amount of times I am poking holes in myself a day, between the 7 shots and testing my blood sugar! Not nice!

I'm a type 1 diabetic but the same thing happens for us in the third trimester - insulin levels rise and rise as you get towards the end. Just watch out for a drop in sugar levels right at the end (often around 36 weeks) - this doesn't always happen but can take you by surprise if it does.

Hang in there. You have only got about 8 or so more weeks to go. Insulin sometimes needs raising more often then you see the people who raise it - if you feel confident you could raise it a bit yourself or else try to tell them your levels more frequently (I used to email my values through to my doctor) so they can change it a bit more rapidly.

First of all-congrats on your pregnancies and thank you for the insight. My Endocrinologist has raised my levels plus I have to take shots to provide coverage for meals. I hope this works. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing in your pregnancies.

Ugh! Every week it gets harder and harder to stay in a good range!
