My 7 month bf dd won't take a sippy cup, I've tried loads... I've heard straw ones work a charm but what the heck is a straw one? Do they sell them in tesco? Boots? I can't imagine her taking a straw this young :-/

What cup worked for you and what age?

She won't take a bottle either btw so anything alike will just get frowned at and chewed rather than drank.

Now her major growth spurts are over d like to start getting her on to a 3-4 hour feeding schedule but don't think I can do that if she is not drinking from a cup as I would worry she is thirsty.

She loves food, probably eats more than her 19 month old brother! She is blw so I figure she will stop when full?? All experiences much appreciated ladies :-)

I breasted my daughter for 7 months and she refused a bottle and a cup except one day I gave her a bottle when it was hot and I knew she was really thirsty and she took to it straight away. I think sometimes it's not that they can't take it they just won't and they have a preference. Have you tried just water in a cup or bottle? Sometimes they get confused if milk is in it if you're breast feeding xx

Also have you tried a free flow sippy cup? Or just a normal cup and you can give them water d

No advice but we are in this situation. Dd is 9 months and is EBF. She has never taken a bottle and if I give her a sippy she just chews the spout like its a teething toy. We have tried so many different cups to no avail. Sigh! I keep offering it every day as I go back to work in March so she will need to drink from something during the day.

We do have a straw cup (yes they sell them in boots etc) but I haven't tried it yet as like you I was sceptical about her understanding she needs to suck on the straw. Maybe I should give it a go!

Hi my friends little girl was the same and i can remember she had a cup with a straw from around 7 months or so. She took to it no problems x

DS1 took a doidy cup around that age and a NUK learner bottle with formula when I stopped BF at just over a year. Good luck :flower:

I second a doidy cup. DD wouldn't take any cup, but would happily drink (with assistance) from a doidy. Or as PP suggested try taking to valve out of a sippy cup.

Hi everyone thank you for your advice. I think I'm going to not breastfeed so much! I just hot used to feeding on demand that she is still snacking and never gets thirsty. Will try to feed her on a 3 hour schedule and offer water in a bottle half hour before a breastfeed and see if she will take that. I have a load of sippy cups and she just chews them x

Try the straw cup. My LO never took to a sippy but quite happily drank from a straw cup the minute I gave him one. They suck on reflex.

My LO preferred open cups that age (yes messy but not as bad as you'd think!). As she got older she liked being a "baby" and using the sippy lids:wacko: and she also loves sports bottles.
