Are any of you doing the NCT and the NHS classes.

I am booked on to both and my first NHS class is on Tuesday next week and I have an NCT class on Thursday next week.

My OH works away but he always comes home early to attend the NCT classses, I don't really want to have to ask him to come home on a Tuesday night aswell. I could go on my own I know but just wondering if the NHS ones are worth it if you are already doing NCT. Do they cover the same things??

Me and OH went to NCT classes, 2 saturdays and a wednesday night (actually i did that one on my own, it was breastfeeding and OH was working) my emergency back up birth partner's coming with me to the NHS one on thursday x

Honestly, I have no idea. I have no experience at all of any of the classes. The only one that I am actually booked on is the one provided by the midwife/health authority, and it's a single saturday class. That's it. I asked about other classes/courses that might be available in the area and the midwife knew of none. She couldn't/wouldn't even advise if there was any antenatal swimming classes/sessions available.

It's probably the only fault that I have with my midwife.

We were meant to go to a BF NHS one a couple of weeks ago but I was ill so didnt make it. Today we have a parentcraft one, I dont have a clue what to expect. All I know is it is to do with first few days with baby etc. Lol.

xx

I went to both my nct and nhs classes...I found the nhs ones werent that good and it was more being talked at that getting a chance to as what you want to know...I did however love the nct classes and found they were well worth the money! hope you enjoy them too

We did NCT and were told not to go to NHS classes as they were the same woman covering the same stuff just much more briefly. Obviously this differs by area. It might be worth you going to NHS in case you pick up any useful info but your OH might just want to stick to NCT.

Oooo good idea about taking my back up birthing partner with me. Might just do that.

having had my baby i feel like neither the nct or nhs classes really prepared me for what was to come! i felt slightly more in the know about the labour but after the babies born- well ive muddled through that by myself. but i can only say this after going on them, so i think its probably worth going to both if you can. i've met a lovely group of girls through the nct classes and we meet up each week so its worth it just for that. i'm also hoping to see people from the nhs classes again but they didnt allow as much time for making friends in mine, it was more being talked at.

A midwife told me that if I'd been to the NCT ones there was no point going to the NHS ones.

She did this as I was complaining that no one had been able to tell me when the NHS ones were and so I'd missed them though ;)

I wouldnt do both - either nct or nhs.

I have the nhs classes at 34, 35, 36 wks this time.

And they are women only classes - so double check if you are thinking of taking OH.....I dont think OH would be happy if you both turned up and he was the only male there!!! :flower:

Hey, I did the NCT classes and really enjoyed them, they were very informative and more personal as smaller classes, Me and my OH have also kept in touch with all the other couples as we all got to know each other quite well! I didn't bother with the NHS ones as was told they aren't as good as NCT x
