Do you normally get another ultrasound at any point after 20 weeks or is that it? I'm not high risk or anything so I'm assuming not?

I am cause I'm consultant led so I get one at 28 and 34 weeks. I no my friend us not high risk but she will have one at 36 weeks to check growth :)

Thanks. Yeah I always read about growth scans but it seems like some people don't have them. I've wondered how the get an estimate on the weight and everything so it'd make sense that there would be one later on.

I have an OB who does scans every month until birth .. But it seems everyone is very different on this.

Yes this depends upon the obgyn. Mine LOVES his ultrasounds. I (and everone i know that uses him) have one at every appointment. It's like he doesn't even have to ask questions cause he can check everything himself. Although I do have other reasons he dies us, a had a 10 cm ovarian cyst that was found at my confirmation us (6weeks). It is now shrunk to 5cm but he is still keeping an eye on it.

Ill get one at 32 weeks to check growth and position.

Usually in the US , OB's will do one around 36 wks to check babies position . It depends a lot on ur dr, though. Some will do one for practically anything "abnormal". Some do very few. I usually end up having several because I typically measure large for dates. I would just ask.

i cant see where you are from but if your in the uk then no you wont get another after 20 weeks unless there is a medical reason or you pay for a private scan. I have 3 growth scans (30,33,36 weeks) but i had a small first baby and im plus size so they keep an eye on my babies now to make sure my placenta is working properly and baby is growing properly.

if your in america then you probably will.

With my DS I had a quick one at about 36 weeks because my blood pressure was rising and they wanted to check the amniotic fluid levels... if my BP had been fine I would have only had a scan at 12 and 20 weeks

Uk ladies do not get offered anymore scans routinely after the 20w anomaly scan. Unless there's a cause for concern (problems at the 20w scan, low amniotic fluid, growth problems etc) you wouldn't usually get any more x

Does anyone think thats bad of NHS UK? I just think after 20 weeks you still have another 20 weeks! Anything can happen. I feel like there should be one more offered at say maybe 32 weeks to check progress. I wonder why they don't offer it.

I guess after 20 weeks if everything looks OK the baby just needs to grow and they do check that by measuring fundal height. So I'm sure if that was out you'd get a scan. Obviously if you have any underlying conditions or develop something that might affect growth then that would change things

I'm sorry ladies. I can't imagine only having two ultra sounds. I now see why so many UK ladies are scheduling private scans. Best of luck to you all!

not really as you are checked via doppler and then measuring fundal height. If anything happens i.e bleeds, pains, or anything else that causes concern then they normally do a scan then.

I've already had 4 ultrasounds, the 20 week being the last one. I started at a fertility dr though so 2 of those were very early ultrasounds. I'm in the US though so I guess I have a chance of potentially getting a growth scan later on. I'll ask my dr at my next appt. It'd be nice to be able to see the little guy one more time before he arrives!

I'll have my fourth us at 18 weeks from my obgyn. But he wont' check for gender until 22 weeks. If it is obvious he may tell me something at the 18 week scan. I cant wait to find out my LO's gender!!

Can they check amount of amniotic fluid from Fundal height?

They can't check amniotic fluid levels for definite with fundal height, but it gives an indication-if fundal heights way ahead or behind it prompts investigation with a scan to see why. This happened to me with dd2, and it diagnosed slow growth and low amniotic fluid at 28 weeks. So was given weekly scans until 39 weeks.

I get growth scans at 28 and 34 my little man was huge lol so this one has to be kept an eye on
