Ultrasound after 20 weeks?

I get a growth scan at 32 weeks because of previous IUGR. But if it weren't for that, the 20 week scan would be the last.

And it was because of that that my DD's IUGR went unnoticed until she was born. :(

Does anyone think thats bad of NHS UK? I just think after 20 weeks you still have another 20 weeks! Anything can happen. I feel like there should be one more offered at say maybe 32 weeks to check progress. I wonder why they don't offer it.

not really as you are checked via doppler and then measuring fundal height. If anything happens i.e bleeds, pains, or anything else that causes concern then they normally do a scan then.

Can they check amount of amniotic fluid from Fundal height?

As pp said hun it gives a rough idea which can't prompt investigation. Or if you leak fluid they will check if it's definitely af and then scan. (I had this with ds1) xx

No I think 2 is about right, and if any problems arise from those 2 scans or with the numerous other checks you have done then you're offered additional ones. I think the country and the NHS itself is already under a terrible strain, not enough manpower, too many patients and just not enough money in the pot, so extra scans isn't necessary. If they had the extra money I'd rather it be put to other resources that are in desperate need.

Plus, there's no actual real knowledge of how damaging an ultrasound scan can be on a developing foetus. There's no real proof as of course it's unethical to test, so I'd rather it be kept to a minimum professionally and then just to enjoy the odd couple of private ones if we choose to have them :)

I will only get two scans on the NHS, but we had a couple of private ones in the early weeks due to previous misscaraiges, so I wanted to reassure myself there, and we also had a 16 week private one to reveal the gender. I'm not too sure as yet but I think we will be getting one of the 4d bonding scans around 28 weeks if we can afford it :)

Interestingly we get a third at 32 weeks and I'm uk nhs too. Not sure why it's different here. It was the same 2 years ago when I had my daughter. It's standard for all at the hospital and they give predicted weight, check position and fluid etc. i guess I am lucky. I'm in kent.

I'm in kent too littlegreenie and if I were not high risk I wouldn't get any past 20weeks. Weird... You must just be lucky! :) xx

Which hospital are you at? We are using Medway. My sister used pembury but they were only 2 scans too. Also they offered the new American harmony test at Medway too to try and support it being introduced over England. I think they are linked to other London hospitals. Strangely enough Medway hospital have been criticised for their maternity care but we have always been happy with it.
