I had promised myself I wouldn't let myself worry too much this time around when it came to food as I was worried about everything last time. I have been fine so far until last night, Dh came home from the shop with a pack of hotdogs. I am paranoid about them so I put them in the oven instead of microwave and cooked for 10 minutes at 200 C. The pack said 6-8 mins at 200. Thought the extra time would be extra safe. But for some reason I had a brain freeze and never preheated the oven. When I bit into the hotdog it was steaming on the outside, the inside was very warm but not steaming and I assumed it was fine as I had it on so long. It was only later when I was cooking something else I thought opps I never preheated. Now it is a fan oven and takes about 8-10 minutes to preheat. It might have been on for a minute or two before hotdogs went in. But it probably only got about 2 minutes at most at the right temperature.

Someone tell me it's not a big deal.I am so paranoid about hot dogs and was trying to be really careful then I do a stupid thing like that.

you can eat hotdogs without heating them at all cos thats all your doin warming it up its the same as lunchmeat not the same as sausages which have to be cooked thoroughly x

Really? I never knew that. I don't have them very much, maybe a few times a year but always assumed they had to be cooked. Feel a little better now. Thanks

i hate them myself lol but my kids love em and they eat em straight out the packet sometimes so its a good job they can be eaten raw! lol

Hot dogs do have to be thouroughly cooked as they have a risk of listeria when not cooked (ie pre cooked & then packaged) please dont eat cold hot dogs, even precooked ones. Some cold lunchmeats have also been put on the at risk foods list due to the listeria virus which thrives in cold temperatures.

I'm sure the amount you heated up yours was fine though, but do please heat all food well through if it has been pre-cooked. I may be far too cautious, but your immune system is about 20 times lower than normal & a bout of listeria can cause real problems (a small risk - but a risk all the same)

I am sure you'll be fine this time though as you did heat them up :hugs:

xx
