Hey. So I had my lap and dye and had the follow up today. I have small fibroids on my ovaries which aren't causing any harm and old endo which has fused my large bowl to my uterus but again it has no effect on my fertility. My tubes are clear so I have been placed in the unexplained category!
My specialist has advised we go for iui to start with then move onto Ivf in the next 12 months. I don't know how to feel. Is there any point in doing iui?
My husband has to have another sperm sample done before hand then we'll get referred so we have to wait another 2 months before referral then however long it takes to be seen for the iui. I thought we might feel better after today's appointment but I don't. I just feel like we've got another few months to wait.
Anyone had iui with unexplained and it worked?

Hi Mrs C F

I had IUI for the very first time this Monday.
My tubes are clear and hubbys sperm is an excellent count, however we just could not concieve on our own. The main problem we have is my egg count is low, but I am ovulating on a monthly basis so there is no real reason why I cant concieve naturally. As we would like more than 1 child, we were told to hurry up about it as I have a low egg count, so to put it simply, we NEED help.

I would say, if you dont want to waste any time and want that extra help then its worth going for IUI. If your doctor has suggested IUI to you then they must believe you have a good chance with it.

I did IUI with FSH injections and a trigger shot, there is no guarantee that the IUI will work the first time round but by doing it you up your chances and it does feel like you are doing something about it :-)

I have met a few people at the clinic and read lots of happy stories of IUI working for women with all sorts of different fertility issues....

I wish you all the best in what you decide.

Thank you Rajnin. Good luck I really hope it works for you. Im hoping that once we are referred it won't take long to start. Ifs been four years and one miscarriage I'm Just so fed up now. X

Hi mrs cf I had my second iui on monday with clomid and trigger shot. i'm unexplained too I would go for it as iui is less invasive

Hi.

I've just had IUI number 2 and we fall under the unexplained category. I just view it at the moment that we need a little bit of extra help with things.

In my area we get 3 tries at IUI and if that doesn't work we get one go at IVF on the NHS.

We have to have one month off after IUI if it does work. I know this is taking time but if we have a chance of IUI working then I'm going to take it instead of going straight for IVF. We obviously qualify for IUI having a chance of working otherwise I'm assuming they would have put us forward for IVF without delaying things with IUI.

Edited to add there are quite a few IUI threads in the Assisted Conception section if you want to read more.

We have just been to see FS today. We are unexplained and have been trying for 16 months. I am approaching 37 and we will be paying for our treatment so both the doctors I saw today suggested moving to IVF first line. Have organised all our private appointments and in theory we could start our first treatment in July.

How long does it take from referral to first appointment for iui? After thinking about it the last couple of days I feel more optimistic. I think I've just been emotional and a bit low this week after scolding myself and then the lap and dye. In a way I was hoping they would find something to fix and not be unexplained. I know that sounds silly. Hopefully it won't take long to get our first appointment once referred to Hexam.
We have been told we should get 6 iuis on nhs and if that fails then Ivf but that would be in 12 months from now at the 3 year Mark. It's been four years since starting trying but sadly we conceived and miscarried two years ago so we have another year before Ivf is allowed. I'll be 33 then. I feel like biological clock is ticking. :( hopefully though the iui's will work for us. :)

Bluebell bun that's great you can start that soon. Private is much faster. Did you have a option for nhs?

Lou1234 i hope this is your successful iui and you don't need to move to Ivf. I've read slot of success stories the last few days. Are you doing medicated iuis? I don't really know much about them but I here you can have natural or medicated.

Hi. Thank you :flower:

Mine are medicated. I ovulate on my own but they have given me a bit of extra help. I've been given clomid (they increased my dosage slightly this time round) for 5 days. I then go for scans from about day 10 of my cycle. Once I'm looking close to ovulation they give me an injection to bring on ovulation.

Because I get spotting before AF normally I'm also on progesterone from the day after IUI just to keep my lining thick.

Last week my lining was a little thin which apparently the clomid can do. If this IUI doesn't work they might give me injections instead of clomid.

We had our first appointment with the consultant in November with tests in December. Our follow up was in January and my first IUI on my March cycle.

Wow that's pretty fast. My fs said once we are referred in July it's the 18 week pathway so hopefully it won take long. I'm a little concerned how often we will have to go to the hospital as the closest for this type of treatment is 90 minutes away. I'm prob going to need to take time off? do you have to in a few times during your cycle ? X

Hi Mrs c f,

For both cycles I had to go for 2 scans with a day or so off between. On the 2nd scan day I had the trigger shot and the day after I had to go in for the IUI.
