We had our 2nd ferility clinic apt yesterday!
So, my HSG, day 21st and urine checking of hormones etc were all fine.

Apparently now after saying DH SA was borderline - the same sample is now fine.

Apparently after sending us a letter saying my DH had a spermatocele, cyst, which would needed operating on ASAP and would leave us infertile and have to do some freezing - that is fine too, he should be fine even if has to get op!!!

We are soooo confused.

He then said, that because our infertility is unexplained, and all tests normal he can see no reason why we cant manage ourselves.

He said the only thing they could offer was IVF and on NHS is a 3-3.5 year waiting list, but which time I would be pushing the age criteria (I am 35 at the moment) and at that time would have a 20% success rate.

If we had 3.5K we could go private (but thru NHS) and pay for 1st treatment, get 3 free after that if needed, and this would start within next 3 months and have a 50% success rate.

Soo confused / annoyed -

We cant afford that,

so looks like keep trying and thats all!

I know how frustrating it is to be branded unexplained... I think i would have nearly found it easier to get my head around not having a baby if one or other of us had a treatable problem, but to be told you're both functioning normally but it still hasn't happened is extremely frustrating.

I know private IVF is quite a lot of money, but try not to rule it out. Have a look at going abroad - I know that nellis is going to norway for treatment and I think including flights and accommodation, it's still cheaper than doing it at home.

Good luck

How long have you been trying? Unexplained is so frustrating and i can understand your confusion with DH condition.

I also think you should consider going abroad as it would be a lot cheaper. Your chances of success are much greater now than in 3 years time. However maybe you will conceive naturally and you have been unlucky - its probably best to have been trying for 2-3 years before paying huge sums of money for IVF.

welcome to the unexplained group!love it, very frustrating hun!!!

We are in the same boat hun, altho IUI on NHS is in the pipeline, if i ever hear back from them

Hi Girls,
I've also had a diagnosis of Unexplained infertility. All our tests and exams came out beautifully. Yet, we haven't managed to get pregnant again so far. We were told the same, just to keep trying on our own. Perhaps it really is just the tension and fear of another m/c in our case, but you get pressurised so much with the same old thing: Just relax! but nobody actually tells you how to achieve it. With each cycle we get more and more dissapointed and it's like a vicious circle.
Maybe having "a plan" would help knowing that there are still other options to try out. I must say my sil has had so much problems 2 years ago, ovarian pains, they thought she may have had a cyst that bursts, she used to bleed between periods and then she suddenly found out she was pregnant. She's just turned 38 and she's expecting a healthy baby. You are not old and you still have a chance. Lots of it.

I was told unexplained as well. I also have recurrent m/c. So, I take Clomid (I ovulate on my own) to get pregnant, and then I lose the baby. I would ask your DR about Clomid. Apparently it can be quite successful in "unexplained".
