iv'e been TTC for 22 months now.
have done all the charting and OPK's and i appear to be ovulating around cycle day 15 giving me a 11 day LP.
Had CD 21 bloods done and apparently ok although wouldnt give me the exact results.

However GP will still not help, he wont even consider any tests till we've been trying 2 years which i know is not that far off now but its so fustrating.
Especially with my history of stage 1 ovarien cancer and having 2 lots of open surgey the first to remove the tumour and when it grew back they opened me up again and took my left overy.

I just feel he should be doing more and have least refered me for HSG.

What do you all feel i should be asking for/doing to improve my chances?
Im planning on going back after my hols to kick his ass into action!

Hi Obesessed,
Why isn't your doctor offering more help!!!!! Is there another doctor at your practice you can go to?

I thought the HFEA recommendation for referral was 12 months or 6 months if over 35... Perhaps your GP needs reminding of it.

good luck

I would def try and get another doctor to look into this. Good luck x

I agree about the 2nd opinion. The other thing you could do is contact your local fert clinic and pay for a private initial consultation (ours cost £150), you can usually do this without having a gp referral. At least with that you're dealing with someone who knows what they're talking about!!

Good Luck!

hi obsessed def get it looked into more! Just say you ahve been tryng for 2 years! What politics!!

How old are you? Can i ask what happened with the ovarian cancer and how was it discovered if you dont mind? I seem to be going througha similar turmoil and I feel you may have some answers that I am looking for.

hi trying4ever,
The ovarien cancer was discovered when i was 21 so 6 years ago. I went to A&E with what was thought to be appendicitis. Got admitted ultrasound scan showed i had a mass on the left, bloods showed it was malignant. Then had a CT scan to double check it followed by a MRI. Tumour was 10x10 cm so went in for surgery they tried to preserve everyhing so left both tubes and overies but a rotine scan 6 months later showed it had grown back so went back in for surgery and they took everything on the left. I had routine bloods, scans and saw the consultant twice a year for four years and then as fully discharged.
i think that if i dont get any luck with my GP whe i go after my holidays then i will change doctors cause its just not fair that everyone else seems to get assessed for problems after 1 year and my gp was just so rude as well.

Hope this helps trying4ever any other questions just ask

The other thing you could try to get the ball rolling is ask for SA. Dr's seem to do these more readily than they do tests on us girls. I guess they're cheaper!!

If you are in the UK the usual time is 12m of 'active trying' so change your GP, hun
you shouldn't need to go to the expense of private consultations. A GP can do your day 1-2 bloods for egg reserve, day 21 bloods for ovulation, us scan HSG and semen analysis. You may have tubal adhesions from the surgery so be more demanding if you can hun; don't let him fob you off.

Is there a female GP at your surgery?? They tend to be a bit more clued up?

Do ask for another opinion. You should be referred after 12 months, and as you have a history of surgery in that area I think your GP is being really unreasonable. I have a fab male GP, but went to see a female GP at the practice given the nature of the problem. She was really really abrasive, told me I was only young, to stop worrying and to try going on holiday. She used to treat me like an idiot every time I went to see her and asked her to explain my blood test results. I ended up seeing my own GP after a while and he was sooooo much better, I wished I'd gone to him all along. He insisted I went back to talk to him after any results and referred me really quickly.

Be insistent, remind them of the guidelines and if no joy, see another doctor in another practice.

Good luck.
