Unique or Traditional?

I'm open to both, it just depends on the name and the meaning behind it really

two months ago and I would have said definitely traditional BUT now I have decided I want a slightly more unique name for our little girl because she is special. there's no accounting for hormones is there?

It has to be different for me :) I have a boring name, I want my children to have something different. But nothing too out there

I like traditional names, I wouldn't want something that is spelt to unusually as I think our LOs would have enough problems with their surname (simple surname but unusual spelling) x

Both! I think names can be traditional, and uncommon and different too. I'd prefer my child to have a name that had meaning behind it, rather than something I made up.

I agree...but I also think made up names can have a lot of meaning behind them. Take my son's name, it's not traditional and you won't find it on baby name sites. But there is a lot of meaning for my husband and I behind it.

I dont think calling your baby Sparrow or Mango..or whatever just to be different is cool though.

Some people forget that there babys have to grow up and that name that sounded realy cute as a baby and a young child but you know that they are going to get teased some thing wrotten when they get in to there teased.

I don't think it matters as long as the name sound nd suits the child :) x

I like traditional names but I would like to come up with something more unique this time. Just not too unusual. If that makes sense.

I prefer something a bit more unusual. It means there aren't going to be a load of kids at school with the same name as you. I have friends and colleagues who have the same name and they just get the first letter of their surname bunged on the end of their name so that everyone knows who they're talking about...not for me i'm afraid.

I like names that can be traditional whilst being unique at the same time.

I voted traditional but interesting to see an almost 50/50 divide. Good poll (I love polls)

Traditional for me, I think if a name is too unusual it may sound cute as a baby but when they are in school they are more likely to get bullied and as a grown up it may not be appropriate (what if little "Apricot" wants to be a serious lawyer).

I'd say both. I have an Emily Anne which I'd say was traditional and a Hebe Ellan which is more unusual. This one will be Sidney Richard David (traditional) or Florrie Love (unusual)

loving sidney-older names are fab, i like both i dont look at a name and think its traditional or unique i choose i name because i like if that makes any sense

My Aunt is called Florie, it's quite traditional but unusual as it's not used much anymore.

My MIL said 'oh there used to be loads of Florries...they were miserable old women...'

I prefer traditional names generally, but then I hear the occasional more unique one that I love as well.

I like traditional names but not old fashioned, so i like it to be modern but not uniquie and silly!!
