Unsure of what to do.

My husband & I recently decided on our names for if we have a boy or a girl.

William Jakob
Mana Eloise

However, I am only 12 weeks & a good friend of mine just had her baby the other day & they had no idea what they were having, but had a boy & named him William Anthony. Now I'm not sure if I should use the name anymore cause I don't want her to think I'm taking it or anything - I don't think either of us knew our name choices. I also just had two friends have boys within days of each other & they both named them Isaac.

I'm just unsure at this point. We briefly discussed switching to Jakob William, but I just thought I'd run it by you lovely ladies.

Opinions on our name selections are of course welcome too.

This is something i couldn't do i'm affraid i would have to change it and go with something completely different, i would be mortified if one of my friends called there baby same name as mine. How would you feel if it was the other way round and they called there son the same name as you? Not sure how your friends would feel but i think there are lots of nice names out there to choose from.

William is a lovely name my 8 years name and he is super tallented in many ways.

How about Liam? I know William can be shortened to that but not often you hear of it.

I have a friend with a boy named Liam. Oy. We wanted William for the longest time because we both had a grandfather named William. We originally were going with Jack William because we also both had a grandfather named Jack. But decided Jack paired with our last name was too cruel & full of innuendo. So we thought switching to Jakob was close enough.

I'd be weirded out indeed if a friend of mine followed suit with a name I had already given my kid, but my DH is not going to budge on William being in the mix. Perhaps we will just go with Jakob William. Ugh! It just frustrates me... & I don't blame her at all, because I'm certain she didn't know we had put William in the first spot since dropping Jack.

Your in a sticky situation if i were you and my partner wasn't budging i would be hoping/praying for a girl. I do like jakob william and love your girl name it's very unusual but so sweet

Did your friend know you had the name William for a boy? (Edit sorry was in a rush - and just reread your post - I agree tell her the reason and maybe you guys could have seperate nicknames or some such)

I would talk to her about it if the name means that much to you! I'm sure she'd understand. Billy is always cute as a nickname! xx

If a friend of mine came to me and explained that situation to me, I wouldn't mind her using the same name I had. I don't think I would change my name choice if a friend of mine used it for her baby.

It's still a ways away & we still don't know if it's a boy or girl. I may definitely talk to her about it, I am sure she won't be bothered - but I was very much, maybe prego hormones? DH & I will work out if we definitely want William Jakob or if we like Jakob William better.

Last name is Wood, which do you think sounds better?

If you like the name William, I think you should still use it!

Personally I prefer Jakob as the first name with your surname but if you prefer William then like the others have said I'd talk to your friend
