Hi,

I have just received my appointment letter for my 1st appointment with the infertility clinic. I was wondering if anyone who has been through this can tell me what i should expect at my 1st appointment? will it just be a chat at first and telling me and dh what the process is or will they do anything?

We have already had initial tests via our gp mine were the blood tests and dh was the sperm test both ok.

Also what tests that i should expect going forward? i have been told its likely to be an ultrasound and also dye will be injected to check my tubes but i'm not really sure!

Excited that feels like something happening but really scared about the tests or what they may find!

Thanks

Usually an internal exam, a chat and then probably refered for a HSG to check your tubes and an ultra sound to check your other bits.

so does that mean i will be referred to someone else too for the hsg and the ultrasound? how long does that normally take and are there any other tests that are done too? what is the internal exam for? and what does a hsg do? sorry for all the questions just dont have any idea what happens!

Internal is to check everything inside is ok, mine showed a tilted womb.

HSG (squirt dye up your foo and check your tubes flow) is done at the X-ray department and needs to be done at a certain time.

Ultrasound is done in the ultrasound department.

Hope that helps.

Then you'll prob go back for results and a plan of action to you FS (fertility specialist).

Feel free to ask me anything.

I'm a pro. Lol.

xxx

Thank you that really helps! takes some of the scary away if that makes sense? appointment is 14th so not long to wait! will prob keep coming back with lots of questions lol! least this is the start of making sure everything ok or sorting a way forward if not! Thanks xxx

Hi - So i literally just met (less than a week ago) with my specialist. I had had all the blood work done by my gp and the DH had his SA done by his urologist.

The initial appointment for me was health screening, family history, etc - normal stuff. Then (and strange bc i seem to be the only who have had something like this) an evaluation to determine whether or not i was eligible (as in good parent prospect) for their services.

Once that was done, i then had an internal - transvaginal scope done - same day. Eggs and lining both measured and recorded.

Doc gave me antibiotics and procedure to prep for an HSG for the next cycle (if AF comes). I was then told on day 1 of AF call and schedule HSG....then the fertility treatment begins if all looks well.

(Normally you have to wait between HSG and results but when i asked, since i have to travel, they will give me results and prescription for fertile drugs then if all looks well)

thank you! if its any consolation we also had to fill in forms to evaluate if we would be eligible for treatment (like you said if we would be good parents!)

ok so today was our 1st appointment! we were in there about an hour and really felt as if they were taking time and care over us which was great! came out feeling quite positive and dh was a bit happier too i think! we had a family history as well as our own historys taken the i also had an internal and as i was due a smear test anyway the dr was going to do that as the same time. she said she didnt want to be too harsh as i am currently 7 days late (despite 2 bfn's) the strange thing she said was that she couldnt reach my cervix as it was too high (she tried 3 times! and was quite painfull) dont know why my cervix would be high and all she said was that there are many reasons why this could be.

does anyone know why this could be?

have also been told to call on cd1 to arrange some more bloods (aparently my doc did them on wrong cd!) and also an ultrasound.

feel shattered after a day filled with such emotion and the build up to it!

Sounds v positive, you're on the path to success. Can I ask what day was the original bloodwork done on compared to what the clinic asked for? Good luck with the u/s & hsg.

Dr did bloods cd19 (21 day test) & clinic want them done cd1-5 so opposite end if cycle!

CD5 and CD21 bloods test for separate things. 21 is for progesterone/ovulation. 5 is for egg quality/reserve.

ah that makes sense! hope reserve still ok then!
