Hi ladies,

So this is a long story but I will keep it as brief as I can.

AF started a couple of days ago, VERY heavy and very painful. Yesterday the pain in my side/stomach got so bad that I rang and spoke to a doctor, who sent me to hospital. After speaking to a doctor at the hospital he thought it could be my appendix and so sent me to a different hospital to see a surgical team. After hours of waiting around, blood tests, pregnancy tests (negative) and various other painful tests the surgeon decided that it wasn't my appendix causing the problem, but he wasn't sure what was. They wanted to keep me in over night but I persuaded them to let me home as I have a son with special needs and no one to take care of him today, but it was on the understanding that I went back in today for an ultrasound. SO I am currently waiting on the hospital calling me today to arrange when to go for scan...

Now for the TMI...

I woke up this morning and when I stood up, despite having long night time pads on the blood was so bad I was left with a pool of blood about the size of the palm of your hand on my floor along with other drips...SORRY I know its way TMI.... I have taken a pic for the doctor to see what I mean. This isn't normal for me...

Is this just severely heavy periods or is it possible something is wrong? Ovarian cysts were mentioned a few times last night, could this be causing this? i know a lot of women in here have had Ovarian cysts which is why i thought I would ask in here. anything else you can think of causing such a horrendous period??

:hugs:

Hi i have pcos but i have never had bleeding this bad even tho I do have (what i class as) super heavy periods but think this is down to me only having about 3/4 a year. Doesn't really help much but didn't want to r n r x

Thank you for your reply. I too generally have heavy periods but I have never made mess like I did this morning. Hospital has called and I am to go in at 3 for an ultrasound. I hope they get to the bottom of it as the pain is really bad today.

I am sorry you are dealing with this :( I have also heard that fibroids can cause heavy bleeding and pain. I would go see your ob and they can do the appropriate tests. Good luck, I will pray for you.

any updates? How are you feeling? did you get to speak with the doctor?

Hi ladies,

Sorry I didn't update you yesterday. Spent the the whole day in hospital having tests and scans done and by the time I got home I was exhausted so went straight to bed.

So after speaking to surgeons, having bloods done, urine tests ran, ultrasounds done etc i was passed onto gynaecology. They done there usual checks etc.

Last week I got a bfp, however it was followed by several bfn's. I have had several false positives before, and advised by a doctor not to fully trust bfp and have them confirmed by bloods before believing them. SO...when the tests became negative I assumed that it was yet another false positive. The gynaecologist believes that it is likely I am having a miscarriage and wants my hcg levels checked once the bleeding stops to make sure they are normal.
Written on my discharge sheet is "spontaneous miscarriage?/ Menorrhagia?". She couldn't say for definite which it was, but said that it either way my bleeding is pretty extreme and has given me stuff to help with the pain and said if it doesn't settle down over the weekend that I should get stuff to help slow the bleeding from my GP. She wanted to give me it last night but didnt have any on the ward.

I am so sorry you are going through this.

I am however really disgusted that the discharge sheet says that and has a ? too - it really would not have been difficult to do a HCG blood to answer the Q there and then - is that the nhs?

I had a similar episode last august, mine was confirmed as a rupturing cyst, the pain caused my uterus to contract much more than it usually would in regular AF and so I got sudden pools of blood.

A full blood count and HCG test were done for me within the hour, it might not change the outcome of what is happening but as women I think we deserve to know and just not have ''"spontaneous miscarriage?/ Menorrhagia?" on a sheet of paper :(

I'm also disappointed at the outcome of 'no meds on the ward' that's just not how a hospital should treat a patient at all.

Yes it's the nhs honey. I agree a wee blood test to confirm it either way would have been nice, especially given how many bloods they done in the first place but to be fair the doctor was really really nice other than not doing the bloods. I also agree that it'd have been nice to get medication to slow the bleeding as I am totally washed out today to te point my parents have had to watch my son as I have zero energy and keep getting dizzy and lightheaded and hubby is working. My DH is really struggling with the not knowing if it was a miscarriage or not, probably more than me to be honest. I think once ism feeling better it will hit me more but for now I just wanna sleep all day. Xx

((hugs)) rest up plenty, get lots of fluid and I hope the bleeding eases soon and that you get some clarity on the cause.

Thanks Nell. I've been lucky to have my mum there to help with my son and he goes to his other grans on a Sunday so can rest tomorrow again. Hopefully by Monday I'll be feeling better. X
