I got home from work this afternoon to see a letter from hospital asking me to come in for a repeat urine test for urine infection.

I'd already gave my urine sample at my last antenatal visit on 2nd Feb. The nurse tested it and it showed some protein in my urine so my consultant asked me to give another sample. Now, I got this letter asking me to come in for a repeat urine test. So off I went to hospital, it took me forever to urinate! I waited more than half hour before I could manage it, lol!

I noticed on my urine specimen bag, it says urine test due "moderate mixed growth". What does it mean?

I have a growth scan on Thursday I will be 16 weeks. I just hope everything will be ok with my baby!

I'm not 100% sure but I had a mid stream urine sample test done last week and the results confirmed "no infection growth".. so I was told all was fine.

I imagine in your case it could mean that there is a sign of infection? Why not phone your mw if you are worried?

It is very common in pregnancy so don't worry, it easily treatable and baby will be fine :)

i think i have a urine infection so now taking amoxacilin which is safe during pregnancy :)x

Thanks girls for your replies. It does look like I have an infection. I would have thought they would call to pick up some medication for that seeing that it is "moderate"?

Anyway, I will call the midwife and see what they say. I have a growth scan on Thursday, so wish me luck...

Hi there, just thought I'd reply to your post as I had an exact same letter today
As far as I know I think the 'moderate mixed growth' is reference to bacteria?!
Obviously, we have natural bacteria and such anyway but it's an imbalance that causes the urine infection, yeast infection, etc.

It shouldn't be anything to worry about, they might just give you some mild antibiotics to clear it up.
It can't get near your baby anyway because of the mucus plug. :flower:

Hope that is a bit of help?!

Careen x

It's nothing to do with the growth of the baby! You can breathe easy on that one.

What it means is that when they sent your sample to the lab to do a culture, a moderate amount of mixed bacteria were growing in it. The antibiotics will sort this out for you.
