Varicocele- when should we get a SA?

For those ladies who's OH has a varicocele, and I'm unsure when to ask for a SA? I know Dr's generally don't send for tests until a year has passed, but does having a varicocele change that?

We're only in our 5th month TTC, but in the back of my mind I'm wondering whether the sperm is affected.

Have they done an u/s on him to confirm varicocele? If so, I would see if you can insist on getting an SA done.

No, it was a few years ago (weren't ttc) and he went just to get what he thought was a lump checked out. Dr said it's a varicocele.

Should we push for a scan? x

Yes. If its small it is ok, but if its bigger it could effect sperm. My husband has a small one, but he got it scanned and they said it wouldn't cause infertility because it so small.

I would push for a S/A regardless. Its a super easy and painless way to check for fertility, or infertility

Thanks, it just depends if they're willing to do tests before the 12 month mark. NHS generally say wait a year x
