Hi there. I have a varicose vein in my leg that I got during my first pregnancy. It hurts from time to time but hasn't been a problem. I notice now that I have a large knot on the top- it's about the size of a small grape. I know that clots here are different than DVT clots. But it's still freaking me out. Should I be worried? Call dr? Any input is appreciated. I'm a single mom pregnant with baby #2 and you ladies are absolutely my sanity savers!

I would call, as a clot isn't something you want to mess around with. It may be nothing, but I would ask the doctor to be safe. If it's red with streaks or warm at all, I would go straight to the emergency room, but otherwise I would call my doctor's after-hours line.

It's not warm and has no discoloration. It's barely even uncomfortable. I just noticed it when I was shaving in the bath tonight. Other than looking really gross- I wouldn't have noticed. Anyway- I will definitely call in the AM. Hope that someone else has experienced this and can tell me it's normal!

I have heard of this although haven't experienced it myself. I believe its called a superficial clot? I do know you should avoid massaging it and it does need to be checked on by a dr. Although from what I've read they may not do anything. I'm sorry you're having this! Keep us updated when you call your dr!

I would call. Please don't mash it or anything. If it is a clot that could cause it to move up and you really don't want that. Maybe take a baby aspirin tonight and put your legs up.

I have a blood clotting disorder and am on blood thinners. My experience with DVTs and PEs comes to me through my sisters who have my disorder and have had complications.

Sounds like thrombophlebitis. It's not dangerous but you should call your dr. Here you can read about it and maybe ease your mind a bit.

I've called the doctor and am waiting on a callback. Has been two hours now so hopefully I will hear something soon!

Oh I have something very similiar. The vein has always been there, but is much more pronounced now that Im pregnant and seems to be getting bigger...midly uncomfortable when I exercise and has a squishy knot, i guess thats the best way to describe it) Let us know what the dr says :)

They said I needed to be seen- so I go in in a couple of hours for an appt. sure it's nothing. But I will feel better if they tell me that.

I went in to see my OB. The vein was warm by then. It appears that there is a clot in the varicose vein. He sent me down for an ultrasound of My leg To check for DVT. So far that came back clear. I call tomorrow to get detailed results. If it is a clot in the varicose vein - He said it was superficial and nothing to worry about. Whew.

Glad you have been seen, and it seems reassuring.

Glad it's just thrombophlebitis! Hope it gets better for you soon. x

Wow! So glad you got checked out! I'm sorry! I know it must be scary to have any clot! Keep us updated! But glad you went and things look ok!
