Hello,

We found out two days ago after what appeared to be a "normal" nt scan that our baby has septated cystic hygromas on the neck.

We met with the genetic counselor yesterday, but she has never seen one as small as this, so she had a hard time assessing risk, and we were advised to just go ahead and book the amnio a few weeks from now.

The fold measurement was 1.43 at 12w1d.

Has anyone heard of this happening with a small measurement?

I'm thinking about trying to book a second opinion nt scan, but I do fully realize that a septated hygroma is bad news. We are not in denial about that. Just looking to get as much information as possible.

Thank you very much.

Hey. My daughter had a cystic hygroma in utero. It was first seen at 10 weeks at my first ultra sound but by the NT scan it had started to resolve itself. That could be what is happening with you. My daughter was later born and the cystic hygroma (can also be refered to as lymphangioma which is what my daughters ent called it) ended up regrowing. She had surgery at 9 months old to remove it. If you want to see her pictures I am more then willing to show them. But if everything else seems normal then I wouldn't worry all that much. If you look around you will see many success stories as well as a few sad stories.

We did not get Amio done with Athena as hers had been resolving itself. If it had kept growing we probably would have thought a lot more about it and probably had it done just so we could have been prepared for whatever was ahead if there was anything. But that was our personal choice for our family don't let anyone push you into amnio. But if you have any questions let me know.

Kelly
