Does your LO wear vests in the summer?

Up until now, Emma has always had a vest on underneath her clothes. My Mum says that she should have a vest on in the summer, under a dress or t-shirt or whatever, because she was told by a HV when she had me that vests help to soak up sweat if the baby is hot.

Now today is very hot and Emma had a vest and dress on and quite frankly, it's too hot!! Surely putting a vest on is going to MAKE her sweat more??

So my question is.....vest or no vest?!

i havent bothered with wiliam when its hot i just put him in shorts and t shirt no vest or he just has a vest and nothing else if we are in the house i just think if i had to wear a vest under my clthes id be roasting so i couldt make little one be that hot x

I am so glad you asked this, as I am sat here wondering exactly the same thing... Annabelle has a vest and dress on and it seems too hot for that much clothing, but like you I have always been told to put a vest on!

That's the thing, had I not been told to always put her one on, then when it's this hot there's no way I would...common sense says it's hot, she doesn't need an extra layer! But then I don't want to not put her one on if it is going to 'soak up the sweat' and maybe keep her cooler?! I'm not convinced by that though, I reckon it's gonna make her sweat more!!!

I have oliver in a vest and a romper. But i was always told you put a vest on them no mattter what you dress them in... this is what i have been wondering because if i hadnt been told to put a vest under everything i wouldnt... but now im wondering if he is too hot.

I mean i have the windows open and a breeze blowing through but im hot!!

I haven't put vest on my older 2 when it was hot and i haven't been with Billy either he just has a t-shirt and trousers on and i take a zip up cardy type thing for if i feel hes getting a bit cool as i would rather put something long sleeved on as it protects his skin from the sun.

I would have thought that if it soaks up all the sweat then once the dampness cools on the vest you then have cool damp clothes on the skin if you see what i mean and thats when you get rashes.
But saying that Iv always put at least a sleavless vest on under things like shirts and t shirts

I normally put a vest on but at the mo she just has a sleepsuit on and no vest. I put her one on yesterday with her vest and ended up taking it off as she was so warm, she was sweating and a vest can't soak up the sweat on her head!

Very good point!! Never thought of that!

Thank u for asking this, i was thinking exactly the same thing! Maybe not vest for the next few days now then.

bailey just wears a vest in house/garden and when i go out i either just have a vest on him or a romper as well but its far to hot, i still see people puttin coats and blankets on there lo they must be sweatin bless them x

I've got my little one in a vest and romper as it's quite cool in my house - will def loose the vest though if it gets any hotter!!

Mirren is in a vest and a vest only at the moment - even going out and she still feels hot! lol

I was unsure about this too. But when it's this hot I don't put a vest on him. xx

Yep this is my other option, I put a vest on but no clothes. In the house if it's super warm then he's just in a nappy xx

Today its 25c here and Max had on a short sleeve and short legged suit with no socks and no vest

My HV told me not to put a vest on him as he has major heat rash on the area covered by the vest.

He then did an explosive poo while I was in the park so he is just in a short sleeve vest now and nothing else

we never bothered putting them under Hannah's clothes in the summer

I will continue using vests once its hot enough for the air conditioning as I tend to like it cooler vs warmer in the house. If we were going somewhere without air conditioning I wouldnt have her in 2 layers.

When we are going out and about right now (its not quite hot here yet though) I am still putting a blanket/jacket on her as otherwise she screams as she hates the wind on her arms so not sure how I'm going to deal with that once its really hot this summer
