I had a molar pregnancy with my first pregnancy. I was cared for very well, and I did get quite unwell for months after, but then I found out I pregnanct with my son. I was told by the specialist team that chances of molar pregnancy again arent huge but they are there, and if the pregnancy developed they'd be a higher chance of an angel baby post 38 weeks. My consultant at the time insisted I go to 40 weeks (no later) with daily monitoring and scans to check the pregnancy was ok. I spent 2 weeks in a complete state, in the end my son was born by emergency induction as he went into distress, and I was later told it probably would have been safer all round to induce me just before 38 weeks.

Its been 7 years since I had my son, and I have had 1 mc and 1 suspected molar mc since. I am ttc #2 and remaining hopeful, new partner (I do believe the defected gene was from the sperm??) but of course still worried. Has anyone had a molar pregnancy? Did you receive any different advice? Ive moved homes (countries) now so I am hoping that the doctors here will support me in not going to term, just for sheer anxiety and concern.

Hi hun, I had a molar as my first pregnancy too :flower:

I had chemo up in London & got the all clear in September 2009.
We started TTC again & 13 cycles on I got a BFP, but had spotting so was called in for a scan asap, it turned out to be just an early MC & my HCG went back to normal in just a few days, so there was no treatment or wait to TTC this time. I'm now on cycle 2 since that.

My EPU are very keen to monitor any future pregnancies from the first available opportunity & have asked me to book in for a scan at 6 weeks, next time I get a positive test. I'm not sure what happens after that, as I've not got that far yet!

I have been told I will require extra monitoring during any births/later MC's as there is an increased risk of hemhorrage after a molar.

I'm not sure about the sperm thing, mine was a partial molar where two sperm get in one egg, by sheer fluke!

Good luck, hope your stay in TTC is a short one! xx

Thank you for your reply, and I hope you get a sticky BFP soon!!!!

I hemhorraged with my son twice through the pregnancy, then on permanat bed rest I had lots of complications at the birth too with bleeding etc ended up in surgery after labour!

The information I received is that it is the sperm that carried the defect, and only on the 'X' chromosome. Im staying positive this time, new partner, new journey :) I was treated at Sheffield, they too jump straight on my case in the event of a pregnancy, but the last 2 mcs saw my hCG levels return to normal quite quickly also (2nd one was a bit of a delay). I dont know how it will work here, new team, new country but I hope I wont need them :o)

Sending you lots of baby dust hun xxxxx
