Before dd was born, my mom bought me a camcorder that I used about a year before it broke.

DD is now 3 and a half and she's in preschool, which means she's now in programs/plays. Her Christmas program is tomorrow night. I can record it on my phone but doubt it'll be as good as a camcorder, but cameras are so expensive.

So, would you buy a new one now that dd is in school? Those who have one, do you use it enough to justify the cost? The one I'm considering is a cannon; anybody know if they are any good? Advice? Opinions?

Where we are parents aren't allowed to record video footage of any shows, plays or events. The school takes the recording and you can buy them. If you are allowed then I would say buy one. My grandads took videos of every school event and now we have them all on dvd. I pretty much have my childhood on video which is lovely to show my husband and eventually much kids. Photos are great but videos are just that little bit extra special. Check if the places sells them though as that may cut down your cost x

I agree with PP. Its definitely worth it for all those special plays etc.

I was gutted we couldn't record DD1s first nativity last week!!
