Just wondering what people are doing with alcohol?? I know we are advised that we can drink a small amount if we want. Me and my OH went out for a lovely Italian tonight (I am suffering now those as I ate WAY too much! :nope:) and I decided to have my 1st glass of vino :wine: I had already decided that when we're off on holiday I was going to treat myself to a couple of glasses then but was wondering what are you guys doing? abstaining or the odd treat or more??

I haven't had the urge but last pregnancy I would have 1 glass of red vino from 2nd tri & on. It wasn't daily but once in a while.

I've had 3-4 glasses, none in first trimester though. I may have 1 or 2 when I go on holiday in 3 weeks.

In the first trimester I had zero interest, but since then I've been half a small glass of wine here and there. I find that restaurant pours are often very generous, so I often only drink about half.

I have had a glass with a meal out on holiday and at a friends house but only since second tri too x

No real urge to drink. OH doesn't drink, so I don't think he would look favorably on my drinking either. I also think that there is much more acceptance of a bit of drinking in Europe than there is here in the US. I think any pregnant woman who is showing might get some stares if she was drinking in public.

Yeah it probably is more acceptable here in Europe. Good to hear others are having the odd glass tho, probably won't have my next one for another couple of weeks until in France, where no one will bat an eyelid for sure!!

Ill be having my first glass of wine at my sisters wedding im putting it in a different cup so i dont get the whole " omg shes pregnant and drinking stare's"!

Abstaining totally - just don't feel I could do it, all I can picture is the alcohol flowing into my tiny baby. I saw a study on the news yesterday that you might find interesting https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-18506174
Not everyone needs to be as paranoid as me lol! :)

I don't blame you for having a cheeky drink - I would if I were a drinker..

I work in a club, so I'm the pregnant lady who smells like a brewery - good job I work late nights otherwise I'm sure I'd get some funny looks....

i bought alcohol free wine and alcohol free kopperburg in asda at the week end. Can surprisingly say ive enjoyed it.

I'm abstaining too. In first tri just the sight of alcohol made me feel sick! I know I'm not a one or two glasses kind of person, so I might as well abstain. One glass would just make me want more.

I've had one or two glasses of wine a week throughout pregnancy, including first tri.

I've spent a lot of time reading the research, and there is no evidence that a small amount each week harms the baby. My baby is growing well and measured perfectly in all scans etc so I'm fairly chilled about it.

Im abstaining, but that being said, I wasn't a massive drinker in the first place and wasn't really one to just have a glass of wine with meals. I Prefer a soft drink with my food.

However I have heard that a glass of wine here and there isn't going to do baby any harm so as long as its not every single day enjoy your tipple every now and again :) I personally have a really high guilt threshold so would feel really guilty if I did lol

i won't be drinking anything, my personal opinion is that it's only 9 months and i was always one to drink to get drunk rather than enjoying a glass of wine on an evening, so for me it's not for the enjoyment of alcohol as such. Anyway one glass would always make me tipsy so i would think after 18 weeks of no drinking i would be on the floor after a large glass of vino!

i know there is no evidence to say that the odd glass of wine will do any harm whatsoever to baby but i personally would feel terrible guilt if there were to be something wrong with baby and i had drunk throughout my pregnancy, even just the odd glass, i would always blame myself, but that is just me!!

I won't touch it because of the fetal alcohol syndrome babies can get just from 1 glass that totally disables them. We watched a thing on it in health and social care and I'd never touch alcohol whilst pregnant now.

I'm abstaining myself, I just personally would feel too bad having a drink, the guilt for me wouldn't make it enjoyable and for the sake of 1 glass it's just not worth it IMO. I was on holiday recently and toyed with the idea of having a glass but just couldn't do it.

I do however have a lovely bottle of champers at home for after baby comes :)

I really don't believe that 1 glass of alcohol can cause foetal alcohol syndrome!
All the research that I have seen varies about neurological development in children and the effects of alcohol from 5 to 9 units a week or more having a detrimental effect on children's IQ and concentration.

None. Ever. I couldn't stand thinking of my baby having alcohol in his system. It's only 9 months and I am more than happy to take no risks

But I don't judge anyone that has the odd glass. My OH would go mad at me of I drank as well lol.

one large glass of red wine is around 3-4 units which i never realised before, so technically 2 of those a week would be considered enough to cause some level of danger to baby, i think more research needs to be done to be honest
