Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to know what you thought of this.

I posted yesterday about having really bad lower back and tummy pain which spread to my pubic bone. It comes and goes but can range from a sharp pain but mainly its just been a dull constant pain, in my lower tummy it feels a bit like a period pain.

It got so bad last night that I rang the midwife who told me to come in, I went in and they checked the baby and my uterus etc which seemed soft (which I guess is good cause I wasn't contracting) Her heartbeat was fine as well. They didn't do a cervical check cause they said it seemed like I wasn't in preterm labour or anything like that so they just said that it must have been stretching pains and sent me home. (but were really nice about it)

Since then it hasn't got worse, but it certainly hasn't got any better and the dull pain in my pubic bone has got a little tiny bit worse.

I heard the heartbeat and they said my uterus felt fine, blood pressure was fine as well, but I am still worried. Why is not getting better?!! Surely round ligament pain would not be a dull pain and it would ease off, this has been the same for two days now.

At the end of the day they didnt find it necessary to do a scan/check my cervix so they obviously thought nothing was wrong but I just don't understand what these pains are!

When I hear people talk about SPD which is another thing she mentioned I could have, I hear about it hurting when they walk or bend down etc, this just hurts non stop but like a dull ache in my pubic bone and back, with on/off stabbing pains in my lower abdomen and on my bump and groin.

The internet is a bad thing and you hear all these things about preterm labour or placental abruption and I am just worried that something worse could be wrong. They surely wouldn't have sent me home if they thought something really was wrong but I am worried there could be something that a scan might pick up on, I think I am just being silly.

Sorry for the long post but any help would be appreciated!

They wouldnt have sent you home if they thought anything was wrong.
TBH i get alsorts of different aches and pains in my bump & pelvic area.
They can be stretching pains, uterus growing ect.
Defo go back if it gets worse though. x

Thanks hun, its so hard to know what is normal!

so sorry you're hurting. Did they do a ultrasound? I had a placental abruption with my last pregnancy. That was some serious pain! But it was on one side and like in the center of my body. As in I couldn't tell at times if the pain was coming from my side on the front or the back. And when I pushed in on the area of the pain, it became excruitiating. I hope it feels better for you soon. If not in a few days, maybe put in another call? Good luck!!

Hi hun,

No they didn't do an ultrasound but I guess if they thought it was something serious like that I am sure they would of? It isn't excruciating pain so I guess it isn't anyything serious like a placental abruption, otherwise I am sure they would have checked.

How long did you have that for before you were seen? Did you get back pain with it as well? On a scale of 1 to 10 how bad was the pain with it?

Mine occured at 15wks along. It happened on a Friday afternoon. I was wee'ing and when I stood up, the pain brought me back to the potty. I kind of walked around and it wouldn't subside. I actually, like a moron, thought maybe I had strained my kidney from weeing so hard!! ( I know, I know) As the hours passed the pain would come and go with rest. But if I went to change positions or walk, it would increase greatly. And like I said, it felt like it was on one side but in the "middle" of my body....make sense? I couldn't tell if the pain was truly in my back or in the front side....like where your appendix is. And if I pushed in where I thought the pain was, it hurt like mad. That pain was a 8 or 9. Resting it was like a 5 and walking made it a 6 or 7. That Sunday, I finally went in to be checked at the ER. There was never any spotting or bleeding or I would've went sooner. They did an ultrasound right away and saw the seperation. It was not huge but was not small either. I went on strict bed rest and they did an ultrasound once a week to monitor the seperation. I stayed on bed rest until it healed. But later on went to have preterm labor/dilation at 27wks, PROM at 30wks, and then baby was born at 32wks.

I would just pay close attention to it. If it doesn't subside in a few days, def call. There are a lot of causes for an abruption but we never could pin point what caused mine (and all of the problems that followed). My first 2 pregnancies were great and so far this bean seems to be great. Keep me updated and I really hope this passes on it's on with nothing being wrong.

Thanks so much for that hun, thats really helpful. They were touching my tummy and it didn't hurt any worse so I am guessing it isn't that but it is useful to hear other people's stories. I am glad your little one was ok as well, thats a long time to be on bed rest!

I will of course keep you updated but fingers crossed it is exactly what they say and is just stretching pains/or SPD!

He was perfect at birth, just tiny!! They started the steroid shots when my water broke at 30wks (thinking he was on his way...nope!!) so those had lots of time to get his lungs strong.

I hope it is nothing more than stretching pains...is this your first? Because I do remember that with my first LO, those pains were much worse than the following pregnancies.

Did they check your urine for a UTI?? My sister had the same symptoms during pregnancy, and had a UTI.

hello there! sorry to hear you've been having all this pain and worry. i hope this maybe puts your mind at rest.

a few weeks back i had really bad pains all around my groin and up into my abdomen. like yours it was like a constant dull ache which would then turn into really sharp pains when i went to move esp. walking. at the time i was around 22wks. i phoned the midwife and described my symptoms - she seemed very confident that it was ligament pain and said it was very common to get it around the 20ish wk mark as things were really having to stretch. i remember thinking she was mad, but she said rest up and if it was still bad the following day to get touch and she would see me, then refer me for some physio. the pain was still there the following day but didn't seem as bad so i left it. i did find resting with a warm hot water bottle on my hip/groin helped, as did a warm bath. from then on it has eased off completely.

i think we somtimes forget that there are seriously big muscles/ligmanets round that area and they do go through a heck of a lot during pregnancy, and because we are not used to pain there (and because of being pregnant) we tend to assume the worst.

good luck with it all x

Thanks hun thats really helpful, I really appreciate that post! At the end of the day the hospital would not have sent me home if there was a problem but its still scary to feel this pain and its reassuring to hear other people that are going through or have gone through the same thing!

Thanks loads x
