Vitex/Agnus Castus

I started taking agnus castus this month - 1600mg daily - so quite a high dosage.

The only effects I had were:
1. Spotting for about 4 days after af finished
2. Not nearly as much ewm as normal - in fact so little I didn't realise I had ovulated until clear temperature shift.
3. Later ovulation than last 2 cycles. Didn't ovulate until cd28.

My questions are: Have any of you had similar side effects when using ac the first month? GIven what I've experienced would YOU stick with it or would you think well it's only causing negative side effects so I would stop using now?

hmm, i wonder if it was AC that gave me problems wth EWCM!

I took it for 4months to regulate my cycles which it seems to have done but i will be in a better position to say this month as this will be my second month off it.

It helped wit my ov and cycles though, coming down from 35 day cycle to a regular 25/26 day. I was taking the kira brand which i dont think is that high.

I stopped taking it because i just thought i'd see if my cycles were regular regardless of the tablets.. and i'd rather be taking as little vits as possible.

A bit late, but hopefully this is of use to you.
The first time I got pregnant I was taking prenatal vitamins that contained 400 mg vitex. I do not know if it helped, as I was only taking it for one week before ovulation and was pregnant right away.
The second time I had been using the same vits for 4 months before I got pregnant, but I miscarried. I started using them again but they did not really seem to work. As my cycle was rather messy, I stopped taking them, also because I read some scarry stuff on vitex on the internet. I just started taking vitex in 4 mg doses, so really low, but my temp was very stable and I OV'ed on CD 16, which is really early for me. Unfortunately the second/luteal phase was still 11 days but I was just diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland. I will be treated for that.

Agnus Castus made me spot constantly and didn't help me at all! Saying that I don't ovulate- so whether it helps people who already ovulate I'm not sure. I've tried it two or three times over the years and every time it has messed my cycles up more than they already were!

Thanks for replies but a bit late for me. Hopefully it will help someone else though!

I took it, and it STOPPED ME FROM OVULATING! I had to stop taking it to ovulate and eventually ovulated on cd41! Then it caused dealyed ovulation next cycle and spotting throughout cycle - very scary!

Things are back to normal now. I would not recommend!

That was exactly my experience with it too!! Took it because of my messed up cycles - and messed them up even more!!! I will never use it again either!
