Hi all,

Use of Vitex (agnus castus, or chaste berry) and Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) are much debated on this board, so I just thought I would share what my naturopath said about these. Of course, hers is one opinion, but it's an educated one. She's a full Dr. of naturopathy.

First, I was taking both Vitex and EPO from CD 1 to ovulation. She told me I'm doing exactly the opposite of what I should be doing! Both of these supplements are progesterone boosters, and should be taken from ovulation to end of cycle.

I know I read one person's post on BnB that said she was convinced taking Vitex throughout her cycle contributed to her fetus being diagnosed with Downs. I asked the naturopath about this, and she said, to her knowledge, there is absolutely no scientific evidence to back that up. If anyone knows of anyone, I'd really appreciate you pointing me towards the data... am very interested in this.

Anyway, my new regime is 2 vitex in the morning, and 3 in the evening (total = 400 mg standardized extract), plus 3 caps EPO in morning (1500 mg). She also has me on 400 mg of CoQ10 a day, and fish oil (plus my prenatals, B6, and folic acid).

Wanted to share this, for what it's worth....

I've also started acupuncture. Eager to see if that helps.

I've read that EPO causes uterine contractions and can be harmful after ovulation though? After ovulation, I've read to take Flaxseed Oil instead of EPO because of this.

thanks never... I'm going to ask her about this...
