Warming bottles when out and about?

We went out with Anna for the first time today and bought an Avent cool bag which keeps the bottles fresh for up to 4 hours. Which is fine, but how do you heat them up when you're away from home without the use of boiling water and a jug, or a microwave?

Also, if you require more than two bottles while you're out, or are away for longer than the cool bag will keep it cool, what do you do?

I had fully expected to breastfeed and ended up bottle feeding without much choice so very new to all this.

i tend to microwave I know your not supposed to. But I have seen that tomme tippee have a flask/bottle warmer you can get it on amazon. They gave me one in john lewis restaurant to heat up bottle and thought it was quite good idea- would prob only do one bottle though.

Ive got a friend who takes a flask of hot water with her and makes the bottle there and then.

Thanks! I did some research for the TT warmer you mentioned and apparently it fits all bottles so should be okay with my Avent ones. I found it in Argos for £7.99. Has good reviews so have ordered it so will see how we get on

We have started taking out a flask of fresh boiled water! It worked a treat today! Stayed really warm to add the milk to it! Just had to let it cool abit!

I use this-

I take a sterilised bottle and a little pre made carton of formula. Pour the carton into the bottle and then warm the bottle up in the hot water from the flask into the container. After I've done it I decant the water back into the flask and re seal it. It's then hot enough to do another bottle later if needed.

Never used the flask to actually use water from it for making up powdered formula but I suppose that would also work!

Joy x

Honestly, formula does not NEED to be heated! My LO was just fine with room temperature formula! :flower:

Thankfully both my dcs are/have been fine with room temperature, so I just take ready mix with me. If I'm going to someone's home for a day I do the double flask method.

i would use a microwave - but only to heat the water- i would take a couple of bottles with cooled boiled water- nuke the water and then add the formula shaking the hell out of it to avoid hot spots. If i was in a cafe i asked for water to heat a bottle - they usually gave me a milk frothing jug with boiling water and i would plonk the bottle in to heat it. Cafe's are usually really helpful.

She will take it at room temp, but not cold, which is what I'm hoping the cool bag will do.

I have the tommee tippee flash thingy. Only does about 3 bottles for me until all the water is gone from it. I did have a bigger flask, but it was so bulky to carry around in additional to a jug to put the water in in the first place.

I once had to heat a bottle up with the car heater while driving to the airport. I left the flask at home and had no other way of warming it up. It worked surprisingly xD

I just take sterilised bottles and cartons out - if I'm somewhere I can blag a cup of warm water to stand the bottle in for a few minutes to warm it a bit, fine (or somewhere they have bottle warmers) - if not she's fine drinking it room temperature.

We have a thermos type bag to keep his bottles somewhat warm. Usually if we are at a restaurant or cafe, I ask sweetly for a cup of hot water for his bottle & get one :)

be careful with the bottle warmers that are like flasks- the water stays boiling and I've burnt myself using them. I go into a coffee shop/ cafe and ask them to use the microwave or have some hot water. Most are very happy to help you if you make a small purchase.

Sometimes, if I know he wants a feed in half an hour but I'm going out, I will heat the bottle up as hot as I can without leaking (I use dr browns) and by the time he wants it, its the right temp.

My Mum used to heat them up on the bonnet of the car- but I dont suggest that really

DD is a madam and has refused room temp or cool bottles since she's first had them! I've tried a few things when out and about including
-Asking for hot water or to use a microwave in cafes/restaurants (have found some places are funny about this though or have given me only warm water which isn't much use so I don't like relying on it) Trafford centre food court, Ikea and Asda cafes are fab and have microwaves you can use.
-Bringing my own flask of hot water to make them up from fresh (good if you can time it so it'll be cool enough for when the feed is due, or a friend of mine brings a jug and with her and fills it with cold water she brings in addition to the boiled)
-If it's just the one feed that was needed I made it up fresh at home and kept it in an insulated bottle carrier and it stayed warm until DD wanted it.
I think with a very young baby i'd be inclined to do the second option and make/cool each feed as needed or bring my own flask of boiled water to warm the ready made cartons :flower:

Thankfully my LO is not too fussy about the temperature she will take room temp or warm bottles so when we are out and about I tend take premade cartons of formula and a sterilised bottles.

Once I've made the feed and it's cooled down I don't bother warming it up. When I go out I just throw the bottles in a bag and give them to her when she wants them. Sometimes I buy the ready to drink cartons. I never bothered with bottle warmers, cooling bags and storage pots for formula. I pre make bottles give them at room temp. If the bottles been in the fridge I put it in the microwave for 30 seconds. I thought it was breast milk that couldn't be heated in the microwave.

Or sometimes we use the ready-to-feed cartons, a lot easier and they don't need heated!

I have two methods, one is to just put a ready-to-feed 120ml bottle into hot water and wait a few minutes to heat it up. This works great at cafes or restaurants.
The other is to carry a hip flask (the metal thing hobos drink alcohol out of lol). I put it in my pocket filled with water which stays body temp. Then I mix formula and it's reasonably warm.
My baby refuses to drink anything less than hot formula so it doesn't always work.

My son would happily take cartons at room temp but unfortunately my daughter won't, they have to be heated. So I bought a mini thermos flask for £4 at Tesco and found an old plastic cup in the cupboard. I just pour a little hot water in the cup and heat the bottle in the cup - it only takes a few minutes.
