OK, here's our situation in brief.......

Last mestrual period was 10/30. Had my first blood drawn on 12/3 which confirmed the pregnancy along with HCG and progesterone levels. HCG was 1,132 and progesterone was 9.1. Doctor was concerned about low progesterone and put me on a progesterone supplement.

Next appointment was 12/13, labs came back with HCG at 19,951 and progesterone at 7.3. Progesterone had fallen and HCG had not quite doubled. Ultrasound measured at 5 weeks, zero days, with no heartbeat, should have been 6.3 weeks by my calculation. Was told not to worry too much about the descepency in dates, however we were refered to a high risk specialist for a 3D ultrasound.

3D ultrasound was done 10 days later on 12/23. The baby measured at 6 weeks, 0 days. At this point it should have 7.5 weeks by my calculation. Heartbeat was found, however the doctor said that at 108 beats per minute it was slow.

Next appointment was 12/27 for more labs. HCG measured at 31,479 (nowhere near doubling from 19,951 from 2 weeks before) and progesterone had further dropped to 6.4.

Office called me with the lab results on 12/31 and called it an early loss. We have a follow up ultrasound tomorrow 1/3. I have been instructed to stop taking the progesterone supplement and have another followup with my doctor on Monday to discuss our options. At this point we're leaning toward pushing for a D&C, if for no other reason than to not drag this out. My fear is that we'll see a heartbeat tomorrow and this will drag out for weeks. Am I being overly pragmatic by just wanting this to be over with......or isn't here a chance? This is very confusing.....and a bit lonely as well since we haven't really told anyone yet. Thoughts?

Hugs ... Sounds like a horrid situation. I had a loss at 12 weeks and had a d&c, but I e not had to go through the heartbreak of seeing the levels drop and waiting. I'm so sorry. No advice, just sending you hugs, and wishing you all the best for the future.

I would never opt for a D&C if there is no sign of infection. It carries risks a natural MC does not. I wouldn't stop progesterone before the US either as that will likely cause your body to expell the baby healthy or not. I was induced when I lost my daughter (NOT D&E) and my two MC we just waited for natural.

So today we had the ultrasound. The sonographer couldn't find a heartbeat and the baby had not developed much from the last scan a couple of weeks ago. We were very appreciative their head radiologist told us we had a miscarriage and we didn't have to wait for our doctor to call. In way, it's a relief to have closure. So now we have have to decide between a D&C, popping a pill or waiting for the baby to pass on it's own.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and whichever option you choose may it being you peace.
