This may seem a really silly question but I was going to make a start on washing our boys bedding and babygrows. Have people used your normal washing powder/liquid or have they brought something different?

I didn't no if I needed to buy a more sensitive detergent or just over thinking?!

I use Fiary non bio for the baby bits, biological powder/liquid can be too harsh on babies skin.

I use Fairy as well. Detergent and the fabric softener.

I read up in this before I bought any. I really wanted to buy the kind made specifically for babies just because it smells so great! What I read was that powders are more likely to not rinse off the clothing and can cause more irritation to the baby. So my main goal when shopping for detergent was to get a liquid that had no dyes and no fragrance. Not sure if it is sold in the UK, but I bought All Free and Clear. To make them smell good, I usea dryer sheet. Not sure if the dryer sheet would be irritable to baby.

Also when you think about it, its really not too big of a deal to buy a specific detergent for baby. If youre going to but something different for baby, then you might as well get something you can use too because in the end, that baby touches your clothes too! Plus the baby stuff can be so expensive!

i bought a sensitive non bio and softener xx

I am using the All Free and Clear too. I wasn't sure if I should use softener. I figured probably not, but I ended up watering down some softener I had and just using a tiny bit. I think that will be okay. The clothes didn't smell like softener. I was afraid dryer sheets would irritate the skin, but the smell is so temping!

When washing baby clothes you should use something that is dye and fragrance free. We use baby soft liquid detergent. We use it for all our stuff. We found that using the normal stuff on our clothes irritated our daughters skin. Same with dryer sheets. The fragrance in them irritated her skin. I would recommend just using a dye and flagrance free detergent and nothing else( softener/dryer sheets).

I used our normal biological and fabric conditioner, and did a couple of extra rinses at the end. I found with my son that non-bio didn't wash well enough, and he's never had a reaction to anything on his clothing. obviously if the new baby doesn't get along with it I'll find something else, probably soap nuts and wash at 60C, as I do with our cloth nappies.

Always use non-bio, I still have to for my 3 year old as he has excema x

My only worry is that I am allergic to some washing powders/conditioners so now I have one I use that im ok with so dont really want to start trying new ones. I suppose though if I find one that is good for babys skin suely mine will be ok to..

There was a voucher for money off Persil non-bio in my Bounty pack so I figured that would be ok for baby. I bought a big tub of the liquid one so I can use it for the whole family.

I use Fairy Non-Bio and Lenore for the baby's clothes and normal biological washing powder for ours. Non-bio can cause a slime build up in the machine. I find biological gets stuff cleaner so will keep using it on me and OH's clothes.

I've washed the odd baby item in biological to get stains out and then washed again in non-bio. Only for really bad stains though :)

Might get some of that napisan stuff which is supposed to be really good on poo stains ;)

Persil non bio small and mighty and Comfort softener (sensitive one)

i used all free and clear on the bedding and baby clothes. its a lot cheaper than the brand thats designed for baby but does the same thing!

I just bought Dreft to wash all his clothes and bedding. I will also wash my bedding with that as I am sure he will be on my bed also. I was told not to use any fabric softner or drying sheets so I will not be using any of those.

I used Lenor to for me and OH with Ariel. Think I will still use lenor and then get some fairy too for the little one.. Saves buying two different types of everything.

we're washing all of our clothes and bedding and everything else in general in the same stuff as LO that way if she does happen to have a reaction to dyes or detergents it wont be on our stuff either

I've washed all mine using Tescos own non bio and comfort fabric conditioner x

I know dreft is a highly recommended baby detergent (at least in the US), but it seemed expensive, so I bought a cheaper brand of detergent - but made sure it is fragrance free and hypoallergenic.
