Had my first FS appointment and have to say I'm so angry at myself for getting my hopes up. He said i need to get my bmi down to 30 (its at 33) before he even considers me for treatment and because my OH has 2 adult children we have to go private. the only decent advice he gave me was to go on medication to start my periods, and the last thing he said was maybe we will see you at the end of the year. My head is spinning what to i do.
i have PCOS and i am finding so hard to loose weight , my GP gave me orlistat and Ive lost 12lbs in eight weeks. Just feel like Ive been fobbed off. Has anyone else had the same experience?

Hi Hun,

I am afraid I am not in quite the same position (my bmi is under 25) but I do have PCOS, I have been going to a fertility clinic seeing a nutritionist and having acupuncture. You can actually reverse PCOS and you can definitely get pregnant with it, there are loads of natural ways to help.

One of the reasons people with PCOS are often overweight is due to the Insulin Resistance, my nutritionist has given me some things to take to help with the IR. One of them is sucroguard by biocare and this is really high in Chromium and this has helped me heaps with the sugar and carb cravings. Some of the other herbs she has me on are:
cinnamon
liquorice
saw palmetto
peony (white)
ginger

Also if you are not ovulating then you could try Agnus Castus. Additionally you should be on a low gi/carb diet to even out blood sugar. Low gi is heaps easier than people think it is just about countering carbs with protein and low gi foods.

I hope some of this is useful and I don’t sound too preachy (and i'm not going over everything you already know), I am just really passionate about getting rid of PCOS naturally and hope I can manage it and help anyone else that wants to.

I am waiting to find out if I have PCOS, but I am in the same boat with the BMI. Personally I am losing weight to help get me healthy to carry a baby. Have you tried any excersie plans? I know that idea is evil and crazy but I joined a running program and have lost 10lbs!

How can you tell from your blood tests if uv got pcos? I have my cd3 results but can't figure them out

They need to test for all hormones, especially free testosterone. An elevation in androgens, or even just an elevation in the free testosterone, is an indication of PCOS.

Good luck to those who both have it and are waiting to find out! I just found out last week I have it, and am thrilled with how metformin is working for me. The dietician I already see for my eating disorder recovery is also a specialist in PCOS, so I lucked out. :)

:dust: to all!!!!

got my results but havent yet spoken to my doc. have no idea if there normal or not.

PCOS works better when you are closer to a bmi of 25. One of the tips I have heard numerous times with PCOS is lose as much weight as you can which is hard but with the help of metformin and a low carb diet, I lost 50 pounds. Right now I am at 27% bmi and working towards 24%. Usually your fertility increases if you lose 10% of your weight.

It's no fun to lose weight and I also take chromium to help the carb cravings and fertilaid which has lots of herbal supplements that helps women with PCOS ovulate.

They found i had it when i was 15 because a cyst ruptured on my ovarie this has happend a few times. I have had numorus internal and ultrasound examinations. I often get blood test done to check my hormones..My doctor gave me Orlistat 120mg and in 8 weeks ive lost 12lbs :happydance::happydance: so i just have to carryon

Simba - I also meant to say that is awsome well done and of course it is not a waste of time you will get there and you will get your BFP.

Wantanerd - that is amazing 50lbs wow great work, how did you do it? And you are so right exercise is totally the best thing you can do for PCOS I think we have both replied to a post about this in the past.

Britzy - sorry I don't really know about all the results bit I just had a scan and then the doctor told me from my blood work but didn't actually ever give me the results.

I've got PCOS too, my bmi is 31ish...I'm trying to lose weight now. I've tried orlistat and metformin and they didn't really work for me, but they are great for some people :)
I'm using an exercise bike and I've cut out chocolate to try and lose weight. It's hard when you're dismissed from help because of your weight. You're only a couple of bmi points over, hope you can get the help you need :hugs:

Hi!!! I have PCOS too!!! it can be a pain in the butt!! the only think it makes hard to conceive, is to know when you OV!!!
Some great girls here at the forum, adviced me to take a gluten free diet! I investigated, and it makes sense! Read about gluten free diets with fertility, and it seems to answer some of my question, and I hope some of yours!

Also, getting these ovulation predictor kits can help ya know when you OV!!!

My case of PCOS causes me to have long and painful menstruations. For 4 months I had irregular cycles, and now Im having 35 days cycles! Dont lose hope!!! :flower:

I totally gave up carbs except in diary products. I also ran for 15 minutes 3 times a week, walked for 1-2 times a week and if I wasn't running or at the beach I wore sketchers shape ups constantly. And I drank 64 ounces of water a day.
I allowed myself to cheat once a week with sushi and a glass of wine.

I am doing the same thing for the next four weeks minus the sushi (I can't eat Colorado sushi after my two week visit back home in FL). And thanks to CO, I can't run as well as I did at sea level so I walk for 35-60 minutes and work out on my Indo Board which is a balance board.

I got a blood test, and they look at my hormones, days before AF is due, also I got an ultrasound, and we saw on each of my ovaries little things, and then the doctor knew for sure.. he suspected because of some syntoms, but Im not overweight, or have extra hair or something...

He explained actually PCOS is no reason of infertility, because treated, you can conceive! :)

ack!!! cant find it! Im sure I left it in DH´s car!! please, remind me later to check my results, and we can compare!! also, an ultrasound tells you right away!!

Trust me I HATE giving up carbs and so does the DH. He is weird about me having to cook a separate dinner from him. But once I get down to 135, I can ease up on the no carbs and stay with the Metformin and exercise. I am looking forward to my first real cheat after 6 weeks which will either be pizza or cheese fries.

Hi Girls!!! I'm trying to be on a low carb diet, and it sucks ass, I love Carbs!!! Also am trying to give up sweet things. And have taken up a sport to do as a hobby, which is ace. :) Am going to see Gynae for the first time next wednesday, am really nervous!! I have managed to lose 1 1/2inches off of my waist in about 2months. :) xxx

yeah! and you know, my b-day was 2 days ago, DH ordered pizza, a big cake, a guest brought a strawberry cheesecake.. a lot of people didnt show up, and we still have all of that, and I look at it, and my mouth goes like water! :nope:

I used to weight 50 pounds more than I am now, and lost it all in 2005 after a year of diet... If I could once, I think I can stay away of that! Just need encouragment!! :flower:
