What is your toddler into and do you place restrictions on what they watch?

My LO has started preferring batman, spiderman, scooby do. He loves Japanese anime and has started to say 'no like it' for all the baby shows like postman pat etc.

It's not like he watches a lot of it anyway. Tv is off by 9.30 every morning although we do movie morning at the weekend. It's just the violence or mild peril I was worried about! I dunno, I guess I'm worried he is exposed to it at too young although it's not like he copies what he sees or anything... A small part of me is glad he prefers that kinda stuff over cutesy wutesy baby crap but saying that out loud makes me a terrible mother I guess :/

amelie likes nick jr and no, we dont restrict it. its usually on most of the day in the background.

eta - ooops misunderstood. um, id let her watch batman/ben10 etc i think  she already knows about things being dead thanks to morbid disney movies :dohh:

Haha oh dear well he hasn't mentioned dead yet! :/

Maybe im over thinking it. We watched power rangers and the turtles and don't go round hitting people :dohh:

We're the same, nick junior or cbeebies is usually on in the background all day if we're in the house, but she won't sit and watch itallday. I think thte things your wee man is watching are okxx

Elliott loves Mickey Mouse (well, Disney Junior in general), Mr Tumble, Postman Pat, ITNG and Timmy Time. He has other favourites too. We don't restrict TV but we aren't in all day to watch it anyway. If I want to have his full attention to do something it does get turned off though ;)

I'm not sure I'd want him to watch things like Batman etc but that's only because an episode of ITNG gave him a nightmare the other day! I also won't allow him to watch The Simpsons as he is easily influenced and will copy.

I don't think you're a bad Mum for letting your little boy watch those programmes though :)

For Omar TV means Mickey club house or nursery rhymes & songs on YouTube. He always watches the recorded episodes of Mickey club house. We have Disney junior but I never thought of putting it on when Omar is awake, I just record Mickey club house for him. Omar is highy sensitive & he talks a lot about fear & things that scares him. He also likes to copy & pretend play. When he's playing he pretends to be Mickey, I Don't want him to pretend to be a batman or superman xx

Madi likes Dora, Bubble Guppies, Team Oomi Zoomy, Peppa, Ben and Holly.. and just recently Rugrats and Curious George.

I dont limit the TV. At all.

She also really into Pixar Movies... Monsters Inc/Nemo/Toy Story etc...

It wouldnt bother me if she wanted to watch Power Rangers or anything... the only thing banned in this house in Thomas because i cannot stand it!

We don't have a TV any more but we occasionally let the children watch DVDs (mostly documentaries but also some children's ones). Nowadays I am very careful about the content because I have noticed my son gets much more physical for a few days after watching something with even the mildest violence.

I noticed a long time ago Charlie really doesn't enjoy anything where they don't speak properly like Timmy Time, Waybuloo, ITNG or Pingu etc... I had to stop him watching Gigglebiz as he was picking up loads of things and copying it so I think he would try and copy Batman and stuff too, which I don't want happening! I've tried to watch Toy Story and Finding Nemo with him but he's not interested, if you know your LO won't copy any of the stuff then it should be fine to let him watch I think :flow:

Tom watches mainly Cbeebies and I don't restrict anything on there apart from Justin's house cos I can't stand it. I turn it over when we're eating breakfast for Peppa Pig and Bananas in Pyjamas cos it avoids the Tweenies which is starting to irritate me.

I personally wouldn't let him watch older cartoons like Scooby Doo, Batman, The Simpsons yet because in my mind they're for older kids and also he has got very upset previously when we happened to have a James Bond film on and there was fighting. It took me ages to reassure him that the men were ok and he kept going on about it later as well.

JJ watches cbeebies and I dont restrict any programmes. I do restrict the amount of TV though he watches though, but not to a huge degree. Cbeebies is on 6am-8am, then 11.30am-noon (Waybuloo before nap), and then again from 4-7pm.
To some that's probably loads, and to others not much. Im not militant about it, but I know that if JJ doesnt burn off some of his energy through play/outings, his behaviour and sleep become affected; so I cant allow him to zone out to TV all day (which he would given the chance!) xx

Summer loves Nick jr she loves micky mouse clubhouse the best. So ended up buying her some micky mouse dvds for Christmas
lol

Ellie loves Raa Raa the Noisy Lion and Peppa Pig. I don't have TV on all day, so I record these shows and she has half hour of them once or twice a day. I don't deliberately restrict TV for her, it's just I like to have quiet occasionally! And if we're reading (which we do a LOT of) or crafting I prefer not to have background noise. TV does tend to be on a lot at the weekend though as my DH watches all the sports, but she takes very very little notice of it at all.

We don't have cable, so we get everything that Claire watches through other means. :angelnot:

Current faves are Max and Ruby, Busy World of Richard Scarry, Wonder Pets, Sesame Street and Backyardigans. :flower:

Its on most of the day at our house but she doesn't actually watch it all day. We'll do other things like colouring, painting or she'll play on her trampoline.

I dont believe it makes you a terrible mother at all. I dont see a problem with it as long as he doesnt imitate and copy and as long as you limit it, everything is fine.

I have been pretty restrictive with the amount of TV Bun watches. We PVR his favourite show (Dinosaur Train) which he can watch once or twice a day. Over christmas he watched his first ever movie (Cars) so in the evenings I will let him watch that or Cars 2 sometimes. He is getting alot more patience for TV lately though - before he was never interested for more than a few min. x

Also agree with whoever said no Thomas lol!!! I hate it too :haha:

My son is a little older... I know what you mean, and I've tried to limit it a bit. He loves transformers, but I am really careful about which 'series' or whatever I let him watch. He watches the older ones. Have you showed him 'krypto super dog'? my son likes that!

He also likes Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Octonauts and dinosaur based documentaries. it's interesting but things I'd think he'd find scary, he doesn't. Like documentaries with dinosaurs ripping each other to bits and stuff. But he asked to watch spiderman (we have a cheap dvd) the other day, then asked me to turn it off because it had a bit of violence in it.

I think a lot of it is the characters involved. I see lots of children boy's age which like ben 10. boy has never seen it but he still likes the character and can identify that it's ben 10!

I have three boys so I have to be very careful about the type of shows I let them watch. At first, I didn't think it was that big of a problem for Power Rangers or those type shows but now, they want to BE power Rangers and it leads to a lot of wrestling and fighting, which I don't like. My MIL thinks I am coddling them and boys will be boys but I don't like it when one always has to be the "bad guy" and one is the "good guy". I guess I just don't think "boys" needs to be synonmyous (sp?) with "fighting".
My kids love Veggie Tales, Leap Frog movies, and the Land Before Time movies also, which are all okay by me! I mainly try to limit the amount of time spent by the tv because my three year old would watch tv every minute of every day if I would let him!!
I don't think that makes you a bad mom by any means!! :)

Daniel has just started watching Scooby Do and says he likes batman - although he's never seen it! He still likes his usual things like thomas the tank, postman pat, koala bros, tweenies etc.
He tv is pretty restricted - he watching it when he goes to my in laws on saturday mornings and he sometimes watches his dvd's in an evening but that isn't often. He generally doesn't ask to watch anything - quite often it's me that asks if he'd like to watch something.

Esther doesn't have any favourites at all - we don't have the tv on when it's just me and her.

Damien isnt very interested in watching tv yet, he will sit for about 5 minutes if i put cbeebies on and then he's up running around and pays no attention to it so i turn it off.
I've read a few articles about how its not so great to have the tv on all day in the background so i turn it off if he's not interested.
To be honest though, i can't wait till the day that i can just bung on a DVD when he's bored and have an hour of peace :haha:
