had not really considered this, but the other day went to see midwife and she said that my pregnancy has gone really well and i am coasting. becuase of this she has advised me to think about midwife led suite for the birth. suggesting that out of the 4 delivery rooms there are 2 water pools for water births.

i hadnt thought about this before, want as natural a birth as possible, but if meds are needed then i will happily go with that to, however midwife said this is a good form of pain relief and you can decide to start labour in the pool and not finish - as its in your birthing room you decide.

Has anyone had a water birth before, or any views on them, really anything - i am trying to think openly and decide what would be best.

I am having one and am soooooo pro birthing pools. I am choosing (hopefully) to birth int he pool but you dont have to do that if you dont want to.

They are the most natural form of pain relief...just think, when you have period pains and after a long day at work whats the first think you want to do...? Soak in a long hot bath.

Obviously some drugs (ie epi) arent compatible with a birthing pool but if the option is there id say try it. YOu may find you dont need any other type of pain relief.

Hiya, like Carries I'm opting for a water birth, all being well. I hope to be at home too. Our MW team has a wonderful record for home water births and are really supportive and positive about it. I trust their experience when they say I won't be screaming if I'm in a pool. I plan to give birth in it too. It sounds lovely. The baby doesn't try to breathe until they reach air and receive the stimulus of being handled, so you can deliver out into the pool in a hands-off manner and then guide the baby to the air. If the baby's body is kept in the water when you put them to your breast there is no danger of them getting cold as the water will be kept at 37 degrees.

The MWs were raving about how everyone should have a water birth as it is so marvellous, it almost makes me look forward to the birth!

I had one and thought it was lovely. Don't know what else to say, but if you have any questions.. just ask. :)

i would absolutely love one, i wanted to go to the midwife led unit this time but i cant as im high risk im so gutted! because when i was in abour with brendan i got in the bath and layed down and it was so good it really helped with the contractions, but unfortunatly i cant have my water birth and i dont have a bath here just a shower so cant even stay in the bath as long as possible lol!!

To further sway you to go jump in the pool when labour starts, another excellent stat to consider is that the incidence of tearing during delivery is way down because the water provides counterpressure and the warmth helps the tissue relax and stretch.
If I could have one over here, I would in a second.
A teeny bit jealous of you right now!:)

My friend had a water birth and she recommended it. She said it really helped with the pain and helped her to relax and move around more easily. The only con is that it is a little more messy... but I don't think I've ever heard of a non-messy labour :)

Why does she say it's more messy chellebelle, mine wasn't messy?

All being well, I fully intend on having a water birth. I want to keep it as natural as possible and I've heard that the warm water is a good pain reliever. When I was discussing it with my mum and my hubby, his only response was "but your mum will see you naked!" I told him that by the time I get to that point, I really won't care who sees what!

i just ant deal with the idea of eing pregnant, i am thinkking of wearing a bikinni top and a t-shirt over the top - then i can take the t-shirt off as labour progresses and then i will have a little dignity at least, but its easily removable for breast feeding to

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

thats funny, did he not realise she would see the private areas more so if you was laying on a bed lol!!! my mum went down and watched brendan be born (so did DH) and i couldnt have cared less! before i was in labour i told them i didnt want them looking lol! the last thing you care about is ur bits on show! men are so funny!

im thinking of having one too if the pool is available when i go into labour. and im going to wear a vest top in the pool.

it's something i've always wanted an tbh i dont think i'll give one if anyone sees the girls, they're gona see far worse parts of me! thats the bit i'm scared of!

I gave birth to my son in a midwife led unit. I had the pool room. I was 5 cms when the room became available and i was able to get straight in. I used gas and air whilst in the pool.

I am a shy person but got in naked as by this time i really didn't care who saw me!!

I was in the water for about 6 hours and they kept topping the water up to keep it at the right temperture. I got out to be checked and have waters broken.

In the end i didn't give birth in the pool, i got out onto the bed.

It was fantastic for pain relief and also i had no stitches.

Plan to have a birth pool this time at home for pain relief. I might give birth in it or out, will decide at the time.

I told my mum not to go that end! as the thought of a water birth was too much for me (it terrified me actually) as was the thought of my mum seeing my bits! and I wanted to give birth on dry land. Anyway, cut a long story short, I was kept waiting too long so for a sorry they gave me the birthing suite room and as soon as they mentioned getting in the water tub, I was ripping my nightie off. I didn't care who saw what, midwives walking in and out.. my mum and boyfriend next to me, I did not care!

I sooooo wanted a pool birth and would love one with this one .
Midwifes wont let me :( , As i have Mild (Its very mild) Epilepsy they say its tooo dangerous if i have a fit , Then they have to get me out of the pool get me to the bed etc too much danger involved ! , I havent had a fit since about 4 years ago but they still wouldnt let me .
I hear they are suppose to really ease the pain in early labour , I had hot baths in Labour wich helped if thats any concelation .x.

LOL!!!! I was the same for my first birth...I am a prude! But when I was in labour I didn't care who looked as long as they could help make the pain go away!

Yeah me too  Im definately a prdue... I didnt even want DH to see down there! In the end I had my mum  2 MW and student drs and specialists...as well as DH... but I really didnt care who saw what! I ended up having emergency c-section anyway...I would love to have a water birth this time round but as I have to have another c-section I cant!
I had a girlfriend who had one (a water birth) and she didnt tear either or have to have an episiotomy...coz of birthing in the water coushions the baby coming out! So go for it darl...Im jelous! But in a good way! :winkwink: :hugs:

Im seriously considering a water birth if time will let me/or the pools free.I had realy quick births in the past so as long as i make it to the delivery suite i may have a good chance of having one

I don't know, I'll ask her next time I see her. She has only had one baby... so I suppose she didn't have anything to compare it too.

I am considering a water birth too. I want it to be as natural as possible... so this sounds like the best option.
