The midwife told us it was fine to give her from day one, as long as it wasn't replacing milk feeds, particularly in this weather at the moment! We've given LO an ounce or two between feeds a couple of times and she takes it fine.
My daughter has been having less formula during the hot weather so the Hv at the clinic told me to not give water (she hasn't been gaining weight as much as she should on the chart). We didn't want to fill her up in any way on water so she took even less formula.
Although the week before a different HV told me to offer water in very hot weather!
No, I never did. I would think at 7 weeks, it would be better to offer more milk to a thirsty baby than water as they need all the nutrients they can get at that time. My baby hardly eats as it is, she's just never had a big appetite, and I'd be nervous unless I knew she was dehydrated to offer water since it might reduce her milk feeds.
