The terms are interchangeable here.

Chemist comes from pharmaceutical chemist, I think from the days when pharmaceutical chemists prepared and dispensed medicines.

I don't know why the difference.. but it DID make sense with my first birth.. At home my water broke... when i got to the hospital they had to break them again.. twice.. she had so many of them, it was definitely a plural for waters!!

The eating in a sandwich with peanut butter stuff in the uk is called Jam! Jelly is diffeerent to Jello. Jello is more like Angel Delight style puddings (my favourite is butterscotch).. where as jelly is made with hot water, you put the cubes in and stir it up, add a little cold water, put it in a mould and refridgerate it.. its wobbly and delish!

I think they're still called the same, but we don't really eat them over here in the UK, as far as I know

lol i always think dating in the UK is the one thats backwards. we say dates like july fifteenth two thousand twelve. so to say it fifteenth july two thousand twelve is like broken english. I guess you could add fifteenth OF july. but you know how the US is.. who needs that extra word lol

So - it is the fifteenth day of July

It's a bit old fashioned to call them a chemist nowadays (the type of thing my grandmother used to say "going to see the chemist with my prescription"). I know a lot of them (work in a hospital) and they wouldn't describe themselves as chemists, they would be called a pharmacist, which is their professional title. I would think most younger people in the UK would say pharmacist.

I am a scientist (though not a chemist) and to me a chemist is also someone who works in a different field of science to me and also wears a lab coat!

The jelly you've described is exactly what we call Jell-o. The Jello you described is what we call pudding. Don't you have pudding that's solid too? Like black pudding? I always wondered why it was called pudding...it doesn't seem pudding-like at all.

Oh thats so strange, i got some Jell-o delivered, and had o make it up like buttercotch pudding (except it was chocolate). That's what threw me.

Black pudding.. wow.. its not a pudding, its actually put with breakfast and i've enver eaten it because i know what it's made of and just couldnt force myself to after that.

Are those scones covered in some kind of savory cream sauce? Over here we have them with sweet things like jam and cream or honey.

biscuits are like more dry and dense dinner rolls. not sweet. the gravy is generally made with sausage. this is more of a southern or midwestern food and not too common on the coasts

The gravy is white because it is milk gravy. Basically you cook the sausage, add flour to the sausage grease to make a paste and let the flour cook for a while. Then you add milk and cook it for a while til it comes to a boil. It's delicious!
