My son Benson is 12 weeks old tomorrow, He's had watery and disgusting smelling poo for almost 2 weeks now! I've taken him to 3 BFing specialists and 3 drs, the last dr basically got fed up with me and gave me a lecture on being exhausted and telling me my baby is fine. No one has actually looked at his poo or taken a sample and it's only because I broke down and cried in the drs office today that she agreed to do one. He's looking happy and fine and putting on weight but his poo is just really watery and smelly, like sewage and that doesn't sit right with me. The drs hadn't even touched my baby before today. I feel like my judgement as a mother is in question now, he's my third baby and I've also been told to trust my instincts and now they are making me feel insane and insecure about my judgement. I just feel really low and stupid right now and needed to vent. Has any one else had similar problems? :help:

How awful for you. :( Im no BF expert but didnt want to R&R. is he maybe not getting either enough fore milk or enough hind milk? When i was BF (which was only for 10 weeks) her poo went a bit funny and it was because she was getting too much fore milk and not enough hind so i used to put her on the boob that she came off when last fed then id swap over rather than putting her on the other boob straight away. Hopefully someone else that knows more than i do about these things can help you and hope you get answers from your GP. x

My middle son had this and it turned out to be an intolerance to soya his poo and farts smelt like death and they were a browny green colour and very watery but at the same time he would have clumps of mucus, solid adult like poo and even rock hard solid stone like bits. He also went from gaining up to a pound a week to gaining 1oz a week at the most. I tried eliminating foods from my diet though not soya as at the time I had no clue it could be a problem and gave him probiotics made not a blind bit of difference. I ended up switching to cow and gate comfort which at the time was soya free, it isn't now. It wasn't a good solution though as he soon developed problems with dairy which he still has though to a far lesser extent. I would push for a referral to a specialist xx

thanks sunshine he had a foremilk issue before and his poo went all frothy and green so I started block feeding which sorted it out. Now its yellow or dark orange but still very watery and smelly xx

summer rain DH has a lot of problems in his family with a lactose intolerance as babies. His sister was allergic to breast milk. So I think it could be that. I cannot wait for his sample to confirm Im right I will demanding an apology from my sons dr. Bens poo has slimy mucus bits in it but no hard stony bits its more water and smell xx

Both my boys had really runny poos (DS2 more so than DS1), they always smelt quite sweet though, just like their breath would smell after a feed. I know it sounds silly, but try smelling his breath straight after a feed and see if his breath smells the same as his nappies?

his breath just smells like milk. Sweet. His poo smells like sewage. I can understand smelly poo babies but his is mega watery too which for me signals diarrhea.

today the health visitor called me and asked me of I was coping. OF COURSE I AM COPING I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHY MY BABY HAS SHIT THATS BASICALLY SEWAGE WATER?! omg dont anyone dare question a gp you might look like you cant cope!

I went to the doctors as I suspected my LO had lactose intolerance or something similar as he had REALLY stinky green poop. The doctor said that he didn't think it was that as usually this would give either almost black or orange coloured poo that was watery and often and could contain mucous and blood.
When you mentioned the orange I thought I would comment and let you know what my GP said.

thank you his is orangey, green or yellowy and mucusy xx

It sounds to me like his tummy is upset by something you're eating but I'm not an expert by any means. Have you tried eliminating things?

Im eating the same things as always Im waiting for his test results first xx

With the test results bare in mind that sometimes a cows' milk or soya protein intolerance can cause a knock on effect of lactose intolerance, so if the stool test comes back as positive for lactose intolerance it doesn't mean that it is an inborn or longer term type of lactose intolerance. The type caused by protein intolerance is usually relatively short lasting and starts to wear off once the offending protein is eliminated from your diet. In the past it was thought an allergy to the actual breastmilk protein was possible but now it is thought that in most cases it is instead an allergy to something in the mother's diet although it isn't always possible to figure out exactly what this is xx

thanks hun :) DHs sister was lactose i tolerant as a baby and she grew out of it xx

his poo isn't so runny anymore but it still smells off, it used to smell like quavers haha now ti smells like sewer, we got referred to a peadiatric doctor his test results were negative for infection but she wouldn't test for lactose intolerance, she said after 6 months it's not relevant anymore, but sorry that's still 3 months of him being in pain and having gassy explosive shit!
