So, last pregnancy I had, I went all natural. It was ok at first, but then the back labor set in during my last 3 hours and I almost couldn't take it. My regular contractions were ok, but the back labor was almost unbearable. :nope: I really want to go all natural again, but don't know if I can handle the pain. any tips to ease back labor OTHER than opting for the epidural. Thanks!!

I had a back to back baby (naturally at home) and also pushed for 4 hours while she turned so the last, well, 4 hours was pretty intense. I didn't feel like it was unmanageable or like I had any obvious back labour, or at least nothing that was noticeable. But I did use a TENS machine on my back from very early in labour, just when I was having strong period cramps, through to pushing, and I practiced hypnotherapy for pain relief. So you might try that. The hypnotherapy was amazing! I really didn't feel like labour was painful. It was intense and hard work and tiring (squatted and pushed with every contraction for those 4 hours), but it wasn't especially painful, except it started to hurt my thighs and knee after awhile! I think a lot of that had to do with doing hypnotherapy. But I also think using a TENS with a back to back baby probably helped a lot because it was very focused on my back, which is probably why I didn't obviously experience any back labour.

I was also going to suggest a tens machine.
I've only had 1 back labour out of 6, but it was hideous!

I just read about sterile water injections into your back for back labor. Supposed to work for a couple hours. It will hurt bad at first but then helps your back loosen up! Good luck, I hope you don't get back labor again though!

My first 2 were back to back and I'm planning for another back to back birth this time as my MW last tie told me I'm more likely to have b2b babies because of the position of my uterus and where the placentas seem to like to go (although I'd b happy to try labour with a none back to back baby :haha:) and I've bought a tens machine as I've heard they help (I planned to get one last time but forgot :dohh:). I found kneeling leaning on a birthing ball and rocking to take the pressure off my back really helped, as did using a birthing pool. Also DH pushing really hard in the small of my back eased some of the pain. Oh and using a hot water bottle on my back felt good early on.

I had a back labour with DD. It was awful! I found making OH a rub it during a contraction helped a bit. And when I was in hospital, diamorphine was heaven! (With OH still running my back)

All my labour was felt in my back.....I asked for a heat pad but the hospital had ran out....so I am going to take a hot water bottle this time as I felt heat would help.....hubby had to rub my back through the contractions....I never felt anything in my stomach which surprised me....it was all in my back. I also used natal hypnotherapy which helped immensely because I couldn't use gas and air until transition as before then the gas and sir made me feel sick.

My labour was a back labour he wasn't back to back tho I think that is just how I labour (apparently my mum did too) I didn't even realise I was in labour at first as I was expecting pains down my bump - that was until my Mum said I was in labour and having contractions - anyway I deviate!

I used a tens machine and plan on doing the same this time along side gas & air
