"We really think you should re-consider this name..."

I think it is super, SUPER rude to make a negative comment about someones name choice and I think you should outright tell your mum and her partner just that. Unbelievable reallly. I would would let my mom have it if she pulled a stunt like that.

Your son's name is lovely by the by.

well it's a bit too late to change it now, so I don't understand why she hasn't shoved off by now.

I thunk you can legally alter the birth certificate during the first six months.
I wouldn't change it, I considered , it was on my favorites list.
When I was about 18 weeks pregnant dh and I agreed that Flynn just WAS his name, we didn't know boy or girl till 20 weeks but I was so certain he was a boy that we decided he was Flynn and called him that from then on, dh's nab didn't like it and said she didn't like it, a couple of others looked surprised and thought it wa strange but no one said change it and prob knew they would be told where to go if they did lol!
When he was finally born we told people his middle names for the first time, Ernest Charles after his grandads his grandad Ernie cried when he found out lol (sadly grandad Charlie died six years ago)
Flynns initials spell out fecg which dh has decided is feck and therefore hilarious! I wanted to give him danger as a middle name but did give up on it after literally every person including dh said it was stupid. I thought it would be cool when he's old enough to be out chatting girls (or boys, his choice) up to say "danger is my middle name"
