Hi my 7 month old isn't too keen on many foods so far, we started at 5 months but it was an on off process as he refused solids during colds so would have a couple of days where he would eat very little solids or none at all. Then he had to go in hospital with bronchiolitis in the new yr so didn't have solids for about a week. so we've been out if hospital for a week now and trying to get back on track, but he dosnt seem to interested. There's a few foods he will eat and opens his mouth for them an eats nicely, he likes cauliflower cheese or mash potatoe an cheese and his fruity cow and gate porridge, he liked bns an pear but seems off that now and sweet potatoe and apple too. I've tried his with something new today but he dosnt seem to like the taste, it was red pellet sweet corn and cauliflower with cheese. when he dosnt want something he either didn't open his mouth, acts disinterested or try's to grab the spoon an play.

I've bin trying him with finger foods to see if he wants to do it himself but he just plays with it. although just now I sat down with a sandwiches and gave him some bread and butter as he watches me and seems to want it, he put the bread to his mouth but think he was really trying to get to his thumb! Lol but he did taste it and didn't seem either for it against it really! Dropped it and put his thumb back in his mouth!

So he not eating very much solids at the moment but sometimes, like the other night had a 7oz bottle every 2hrs over 6hrs so obviously is hungry. I don't know what to do, it was straight forward with my first! if I continue with the finger foods how long about is it until
They stop playing and start eating? I think all I can do is keep trying and hope I find a few more things he likes, but has anyone been in this situation, what did you do? Thanks

I'd just keep going with whatever approach feels right to you and give it time. My daughter tends to be weird about food for about 2 weeks or so after she's been sick (and she's never been sick enough to be in the hospital, so you might expect it to take even longer). They know what they need and as long as he's taking plenty of fluids, he's fine.

We did BLW so I've never done purees and imagine it's probably different, but my daughter didn't start to eat a significant amount until she was about 9 months. Even then, she was sick and would only tolerate fruit and yogurt for about a month! We just went with it, offered her a wide variety of foods, and let her choose. She usually only ate the fruit and yogurt, but eventually when she started to feel better, she was back to normal. As for finger foods, I wouldn't expect him to start eating much of them for another month or two. It's a learning process and is very different then purees so he will just play with it for a bit. But it's not a problem. He's getting plenty of milk and will grasp it all when he's ready.

My little one was very awkward when he was ill .... Well
Not awkward we all want what we want when we're ill don't we. He'd only eat cereal and yoghurt in those cases. I used to fight against him but lightened up
When I realised he wasn't playing me he just didn't feel
Like it. My only advice is just keep
At it. At one point my lo was refusing dinners. He's 22 mths now and I wouldn't say he eats everything but he eats a varies diet lots if fruit and veg etc.

Thanks I was just wondering whether I should be trying cut his milk down to get him to have more solids, he really likes his milk! he's not had quite as much the past couple of days and increased his solids abit but he's now waking up hungry either bin the night or very early morning like now at 4am! So maybe I should leave him to work it out himself as it was working before, I think I might leave a bigger gap before offering solids so he's hungrier that seems to be working the last few days. Thanks :)
