I was speaking to someone the other day about our wedding favours (can't remember who) and they were suprised that we had favours for the male guests :saywhat: Apparently you only give favours to the ladies. Is this true or was she having me on? xx

i think traditionally they used to only be given to the ladies, but nowadays i think people generally do them for everyone :)

Everytime i have been to a wedding there for everyone

I am going to have them for everyone

Everyone for me too. xx

I'm having them for everyone as they double up as place names too

x

I'm having them for everyone....planning on a christmas decoration for each person and then love hearts on each table

I having mine for everyone.....We have organza bags with some rose smelling love heart soap :)

I was organising a wedding and they had an Alice in Wonderland theme so for the favours they had whisky in a bottle for the men which had a label on it which said drink me and some cake in a box for the females with eat me on the label thought it was quite cool :)

I've only been to one 'proper' wedding and it had no favours =]
But my gran went to a wedding where the men got a whisky miniture and the ladies got a mini rolling pin lol! Old fashioned much!

We are giving favours out to everyone too. x

Thats what we have too  We have a mini soap and a mini bath bomb in organz bags and then we are getting some mini chocolates x

We are giving favours to everyone & all the children will have activity packs that I will make up for them!x

We're doing little activity pack things for the kids but no favours as such!

I did favours for everyone..I couldn't deal with the moaning from the guys ;)

I gave minature Chuppa Chupp lolly keyrings, chocolates and lip glosses to the girls and the blokes got scratch cards. None of it was related to our wedding theme but they all went down really well.

No, whoever it was wasn't having you on. The traditional way is to give them to just the women, and traditionally you give 5 almonds, Health, Wealth, Happiness... I can't remember the others without looking it up. The idea is that the bitterness of the almonds and the sweetness of the sugar coating represents the bitter-sweetness of marriage, or some such rubbish.

At the end of the day, it is up to you, it is your wedding. Maybe differentiate the male and female favours?

Its Health, Wealth, Happiness. Fertility and Long Life. Its a sweet tradition but people usually expect a bit more from their favours these days and its quite common for men and women to both receive them

I def don't agree that people "expect more" nowadays, i know I never expect anything :)

As said, traditionally it was just the ladies :) We're giving to everyone x

at our wedding i did the sugar almonds in organza bags for the women, and a little box with 5 choc footballs for the men as our wedding was on first england match of world cup just like today but 4 years ago LOL so it was a bit of a joke really!

We're doing little bags of flower seeds for everyone - that way if people don't want them, they won't be wasted as we will use them!

You can always check out the Martha Stewart Weddings site - there are some good ideas on there, tailored towards American browsers but you can always adapt them. xx

In addition to last post, we're doing this for the little ones involved in the wedding party - colouring books, pencils, finger puppets - just little bits & bobs. There'll be a sort of non-messy table for people to get creative with their well wishes to us and post them so we can stick them into a book or folder at a later date, so the kids can get involved there too - stickers, pens etc.

We're also having a sweetie table as OH has a really, really sugary sweet tooth! Will prob put little cups there for people to fill - it won't be to everyone's taste but it'll keep the kids happy, and fairly cheap.
