For the past few weeks my son will have a coal black poo, it is still soft and squishy (TMI) so I do not believe he is dehydrated at he drinks tonnes of liquids... He also has 2+ bowel movements a day so he is very regular. What could be causing such a dark color?

Again he doesn't have this kind of stool every time he goes, but it has become a regular occurrence and I just want to be sure there isn't anything else going wrong that I could be overlooking.

Maybe a lot of iron is his food? I honestly don't know. Have you spoken to a doctor/hv? xx

I haven't seen a doctor about this yet, but he just weaned from breast feeding to formula, and it is iron fortified formula... maybe this is the culprit??

sounds like it! What formula is he on? If its 6 months + then it has extra iron in it x

Is LO okay in all other ways? My friends baby was very unsettled and had black poo which in his case was old blood due to lactose intolerance x

I would get this checked out, in adults this indicates bleeding in the stomach, maybe the change to formula is upsetting his gut.
