M has really strange toe nails, since hes been born i think ive needed to cut them 3 times, i cant explain his nail on his big toe, but it looks like, you know when you bang your toe and the nail bends back, it looks like that, but thats not happened, its been like this since birth, and my sissy's are the same, anyway sometimes this snaps off, ive noticed now just half of it has, but quite far down, hes not bothered by it i dont think so ive not thought much of it, but then i looked the other day and his nail on his little toe has like snapped in half DOWN the middle and one half is hanging off, i dont want to pull it bcos i once got a infection from taking off a toe nail like that, but does this mean something?
OH's gran said it could be lack of vitamins, and i think shes onto something, i dont give M extra vitamins but ive made a pledge that i will!!

also off subject to toe nails and onto toes, he keeps getting a blister under his toe (on the underneath of his big toe), and idk what its caused by :s he had one and it must have burst bcos all the skin was coming off, then i looked yesterday and theres another blister..

Their toe nails are weird aren't they! :haha: I don't think it's anything to worry about. That's just what they're like. . I've only ever cut my 6.5 month old DD's big toe nails a couple of times and the others (apart from one of her little ones which I had to cut the other day cos, like your LO's, had split down the middle) I've never had to! They just grow super slow.

As for the blisters. . I dunno.. His shoes. .?

Sounds like my LO's toenails. It's never been a problem, even when bits have peeled off, leaving pink underneath. She's 9 months, is breastfed, eats fortified porridge every day ... that's just how her toenails seem to be right now. I don't know what causes it but she does seem to be fine and gets extra vitamins and minerals from her porridge. We're also soon to start vitamin drops on the advice of our health visitor. Apparently all breastfed babies should.

Sophie has always had weird toenails like this too.

Same here too.
My 19 month olds big toe nail and the one beside it randomly fell off a couple of months back (the whole toenails, no idea why!)

i took Malakai to the docs the other day (unrelated to this) and while i was there i mentioned his toe nails and showed him what i mean, he said i need to take him to the hospital for blood tests as the way his toe nails look it could be a sign of bone problems, i cant remember the exact term he used but he said its worth it just incase.
I thought it would be normal because if you actually see how many times a baby stubs their toe, bangs their toe, curl their toes, im sure mine would break alot too.

blood tests done, thyroid came back fine but the other sample picked up high levels of phosphate so we have to go back for more!

Oh that is scsry! Thank you for telling us, I'll have Sophies toenails looked at too.

the woman i spoke to at the Drs said not to worry just yet, she said sometimes you can have high phosphate in your blood thats why they do tests again, if the phosphate levels are high again then theres a reason to worry
