So, we arrived at the hospital Tuesday morning around 8:15a.m. We checked in and were sent up to a small waiting room before Triage. About twenty minutes later my nurse walks in and explains that this was a new waiting room and that it was the first time they had sent one of her patients there and yadda, so sorry for the wait. Meanwhile, I had worked myself up since I had never been in the hospital before. In Triage, I'm sent to a bathroom to change into the lovely hospital gown and some very tight slipper socks. I'm at the height of fashion inching my way to my bed so my bum doesn't show to the world. Finally in bed, I got a BP band which bruised my upper arm since it was on for almost 24 hours. I also recieved an IV that we later discovered wasn't quite in my hand properly. It pinched and although I recieved my fluids before surgery, I was not getting them during and ending with a massive headache and the loss of more blood than I should have. Finally, I got a shot of some sort of sweet, salty and grape flavored antacid. Was wheeled into surgery and recieved my spinal. It was the worst pain I've ever experienced. I whimpered and cried like a big baby and clung to my "co-partner"; a nurse who held and spoke to me since hubby couldn't come in yet. But man, once that spinal was in, it was working. No pain, just tingles and I could feel things. I just, you don't get it unless you get one. They prepped me, put the blue sheet up, put my hands out to the side and brought DH in. I starred at him and was grateful my doctor didn't tell me the procedure had started. In the blink of an eye, I heard him cry and couldn't help but cry myself. He and DH were whisked out and I saw him in passing all gooey and grayish. Minutes later, DH came in holding him and even with his mask on, I could tell he was grinning ear to ear. I couldn't move my arms, so DH took my fingers and stroked his cheek before they both went to the nursery. My surgery was finished with no other problems and I was wheeled to recovery where ten minutes later my perfect son was brought to me.
Four days later, we are all still on cloud nine.
