Well...fear realized....off to a fertility specialist....

I actually am going in next Tuesday. I could have gotten in today but I was off of work yesterday for my midwife appointment. I am due to start AF tomorrow or the first so I figure I will see him at the end of my cycle and then be open for tests. What is the test where they inject the dye to look at the tubes? HSG? I am hoping I can get scheduled in the few days after my consult. How long did it take to schedule an appt for that procedure? So many questions. So so many...

yes that is the HSG... they schedule it between CD6 and CD 9...here is what I found online too btw

Hysterosalpingogram (Uterotubogram) or HSG is a specialized X-ray of the uterus and tubes. An HSG is done after the menstrual flow has just stopped - usually on Day 6 or 7 of the period, at which time the lining of the uterus is thin.An HSG is usually preformed after your period, but before ovulation. This way it won't interfere with a pregnancy.

I skipped a few posts (sorry!) because I am sort of busy at work, but I wanted to say that I've noticed that clomid seems to be an answer to just about any question and that, at least from my own experience, I see it prescribed left and right.

I almost got it, after one single chat with an ob/gyn who had never seen me before or had access to my medical history. I went in to talk to her about planned pregnancy and referrals to different specialist. I mentioned my previous (many years ago, pre-birth contro pill) long, but regular cycles - they were 38 - 42 days, but regular and ovulatory to my knowledge. She was ready to prescribe clomid. Hello, lady? I am not popping any pills without some evidence that I need them. So I took nothing.

And of course I needed no clomid. I ovulate regularly and I do not have PCOS. Not even close. Meanwhile, the RE I go to, found some other issues and we're dealing with that now. It has nothing to do with clomid.

Personally, I enjoy modern medicine and modern techniques. If it can help anyone achieve a goal or stay/become healthy, I say go for it.

If we don't conceive naturally, I hope the medicine will be able to assist us (there's a chance it might not, at least not in this country).

I'm not 35 or older, but I guess nearly-34 counts. Even more so because some of my hormones think I am in my late 40s.

Drugs are my fear...I actually pushed my appointment up and am able to go in tomorrow at 1:00. I just want to get in and get it over with. Fortunately they had an opening. I am just going to research tonight and make sure I am prepared with what I do and don't want. I want to approach it with BW first and then maybe take a look at what is going on inside...then maybe look into meds. Why would someone give someone meds if they have no idea what is going on with their body???

Thanks so so much ladies...you have made my nerves so much calmer than if I didn't have this place to vent...you're the best...

Another thing to think about arlosmama:

An RE has 4 years of college education, 4 years or medical school, 4 years of residency, AND 2 years of fellowship.
That's 14 years of formal training.

A midwife has 6 years. I'm all for nurses, I am one. But, if I'm looking for someone to help with my body, I'm going with the person with 14 years of education! That's not to say that you should listen to your doc and follow them blindly, not at all. But, if I'm having a problem, I'm going to search out the person with the biggest educational loan, lol.

Good luck.

Actually I wanted to jump in.. I've had an HSG, and it's not an XRAY, it's an Ultrasound with saline..the purpose of this test is to examine the inside of the uterus as well as the tubes, to ensure the tubes are not obstructed.

What they do, is they insert a small cather into your cervix between day 6 and 12...the reason for that is that they want to insure your period is over, but that you are not pregnant.... the tip of this catheter has a little balloon on it, so that they can put water into the uterus, without it escaping.

First they fill the uterus for a lining examination, and then they use a different type of saline that has tiny bubbles, so that they can track the movement through the uterus and out of the tubes.....

it's not painful, but it can be uncomfortable slightly...they deflat the balloon, and then you have some watery discharge for a little while. MIght feel gassy etc.. it does resolve over a day or son.

actually it was an x-ray in my case...seems like an ultrasound but I was told it was an x-ray and may it started as a balloon like you said but then the liquid pushed through the tubes...I was able to see it leak out on the screen

LLB, both tests exist....my bad...there is the HSG that you had, with contrast media, and fluroscopy [XRAY], but there is also a saline HSG which utilizes ultrasound to see the same thing essentially [just a little less risk to the body, as they aren't using xrays..but there is still a potential of infection.]

I was able to see the saline in the uterine cavity..it looked black, and the bubbles moving through the tubes looked like sparkles ...

Hopefully your doctor was able to get some decent information in helping you on the journey :)

Well...I went and saw my FS...and for now he wants to do pretty much nothing. He did take my bloodwork for the AMH test and said if I don't hear from him then everything is normal, but I can still call if I want the number. Won't have results for that until next week. He wants me to hold off until my October cycle and if still no luck then we will go ahead with the HSG. I am happy he didn't throw any meds at me. He said since I have normal 28 to 29 day cycles and have conceived before that he is thinking we just haven't gotten lucky yet. He told me to start BD'ing around CD7 and every other day until about CD21. He told me to ditch the basal temps and OPKs and to just not make it work. He said I am healty, I don't drink, or smoke, and have no history that would make him think it might just take us a bit longer. He said come October he will test my husband too so that way I don't have to wait a full year until we start working on anything. My progesterone and estrogen levels are normal.

Now obviously, I am totally still going to OPK. I have to pee on something! So now I am trying not to stress and am going to wait for my blood results.

Good luck to all of you ladies and dust to all. Thanks again for all of your responses. It is much appreciated.

I'm so glad it went well!

Sounds good! Great news that everything is pretty much A-OK...

So glad it went well.

I didn't realize that you've been ttc since April this year (I thought it was since April 2010). Your doc may be right. . . . you just might need more time. :hugs:

Honestly, with 3 pregnancies, I've only conceived once prior to 7 months.

Good luck.

Yeah. We've only been trying since April of this year but the concern from my midwife was my spotting and negative opk tests. She said to check it out so I dont start looking into options at 38 when it can take me a year to get a bfp. Now I just have to sit and wait tosee what my ovarian reserve looks like. I guess no news will be good news...oy...
