My LO is 20 weeks. I've been advised to leave weaning to as close to six months as I can. I'm going to do this but unsure exactly when to do it as I'm unsure if hrs showing signs of wanting more than milk. He's always seems to be hungry. He is waking in the night for feed, whereas he was sttn ( could be four month sleep regression) He shows interest when we eat and he wants to put everything in his mouth. He can be sarisfied from milk, but just lots of it.

I am going to leave it as close to six months but I'm I'm also dying to try him with a bit of baby rice/purée to see what he makes of it.

Hey I was exactly the same as you - HV visitor said to wait till close to 6 months but my LO started totally staring when we were eating and everything was in his mouth. This went on for a couple of weeks and then he tried to steal a biscuit out of OH hand so I decided it was time!!

I started last week (LO was 19 wks). I did a couple of days of baby rice which he wasn't interested in so I went and bought the annabel karmel book and made some purees and he loves it now. So far he's had apple banana pear carrot sweet potato and parsnip!!

Good luck!

I started to wean when LO was just under five months old and the main reason for this was that family kept nagging me to and were constantly saying she needs weaning. She was going through a nursing strike at the time and they kept telling me she was avoiding breastfeeding because she wanted solids - she didn't even know what solids were!

I started on purees and my LO hated them. But family kept pushing me to persevere saying that she would get the hang of it. It didn't help that DH was also taking everything they said as gospel and pushing me to feed LO mush three times a day and saying that she should be having baby food before breastfeeds - he's too easily influenced by others! :dohh: Nearly two months on she's so traumatised by the sight of a spoon, I can't help but wish I hadn't taken their advice to keep pushing purees on her :( I'm doing BLW weaning now which LO loves as she enjoys picking up food, exploring it and tasting it on her own terms without being forced. This is working out much better for us, and even if its a while until she eats full meals, she's doing fine on my breastmilk for now, even if she is on the breast constantly! :laugh2:

Good luck with the weaning process, it can be an exciting time! Hope all goes well :) xx

Believe me the novelty soon wears off - extra cost buying all the food, extra work preparing the food, extra washing with all the food-stains, extra stress when they sometimes eat and sometimes don't, less sleep as their bodies deal with something new...

Enjoy the time before weaning. If he is satisfied with more milk then just go with it.

Sorry that's not really what you were asking.

I started at 6months because the health visitor said I had to but actually I don't think my lo was ready for another few weeks because she fought me spoon feeding her yet never put anything in her mouth so not ready to blw. By 7 months she seemed a lot happier with the whole thing.

My babe is 9 weeks and he has had some banana pudding and some baby rice already. Not often but every once in awhile. He likes it and knows to open his mouth for the spoon so I don't really have any problem with it. He will be eatting more at four months, I wont be waiting till six months.

I started weaning at 19weeks. For the couple following weeks we just gave her rice. The last couple weeks, I started giving her other foods. She's had sweet potato, avocado, carrot, banana, and some oatmeal. :) I started weaning in the first place because it was just the right time for her :)

I started at 5 months. My HV advised to get as close to 6 months as possible, and never before 17 weeks because of the risk of long -term health problems.

When my LO hit 4 months he was feeding more & more, waking at night & seemed generally miserable. I thought it might be a growth spurt but when it was still going on after another month my HV agreed he might be ready! So I gave him some mashed banana which he was very pleased with!

I do agree that although the first few solid meals are fun, it does become a bit if a chore after a while, with all the pureeing, freezing etc. I only did purees for a month, then I just gave him whatever we were having & lots of finger foods.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

Today! 16 weeks + 5 days, HV recommended 17 weeks and he was really hungry today so tried him on some pears! :)

6.5 months we started.

I waited til then as I do know that in most cases, waiting til 6 months is best and safest and easiest for mum and baby.

We went on holiday when LO turned 6 months so we just waited til we got home from hols to introduce solids.

He took to it easily - no purees or anything - just proper family meals from the start:flower:

I started at 23 weeks. Wanted to get close to 6 months but wasn't obsessive about getting to dead on the day. LO was totally ready at this point, was sitting up well, wanting lots more milk, watching us very closely when we ate and making little chewing faces. I am glad I left it later as LO took to it so easily, started with purres but only for around 2 weeks max, then just mashed. From 6 months he just whatever we had.

A day shy of 27 weeks. We waited for him to be physically ready for solids... I am a strong beleiver in waiting until they can sit unaided and their tongue thrust reflex is gone... reaching for food and putting it in their mouth/shows interest is also important. If your baby can't sit alone and still pushes food out of his mouth then IMO he's not ready :) until he could do both those things he was staying on his breastmilk... His tongue thrust was gone sometime between 5 and 6 months and he sat unaided starting at 25 weeks. He still doesn't eat tons yets and trust me, the novelty does wear off, preparing food and cleaning up the mess gets old reallllly fast! :haha:

We waited until 6 months as I wanted to do BLW and he needed to be able to sit up properly like Casey said. Before then we would sit him up to the table in his highchair during mealtimes and give him bowls and spoons to play with. He used to copy us and the first time we gave him a preloaded spoon of yogurt he put it straight in his mouth, I was so proud!

Today. was going to wait as were are sposed to go on holiday on sunday...but he eating 9oz of hungry baby milk and still not satisfied. so just going to use baby rice/porrige until we get back from holiday when i will go for it properly (and he will be 6months)
