Its getting more and more impossible to get LO into her gro bag at night as she thrashes around so its a battle to get her in it and later on she gets herself out of it so its half on half off. Anyway, ive bought her a duvet and pillow today. First question is can a toddler duvet go in a cot as its bigger than I imagined it would be?

Secondly, as DH pointed out (which made me take the duvet straight out and put it away again!) once her feet are loose out of the gro bag she will be able to climb out of the cot. So to add to my paranoia of her getting her head trapped under the duvet and suffocating, im now worried she would be able to climb out of the cot! The other worry is that she would kick it off in the night and get cold. I bought a fleecy onesie but its too much with the 4 tog duvet aswell. Who'd have thought a duvet and pillow would cause so much worry! Lol.

I put her to bed with only the pillow tonight and in her gro bag again. However, ive just looked on the monitor now and shes sat on the pillow. I explained she needed to lie down on it and put her head on it but shes got herself up and is sitting on it instead! Usually we have no problems with bed time and I am just stressing that changing things will upset the apple cart with sleep.

Shes got to have a pillow and duvet at some point so ive just got to bite the bullet one night and see what happens but I guess I just need some reassurance. Not sure if I should just battle on with the gro bag or give her the duvet and hope for the best!

What age did your LO get the duvet and pillow?

Would be interested to hear what others say, I've got no advice I'm afraid. My lo is two and still in a sleeping bag, I've got a duvet and pillow for him but have not made the swap yet. We've got a video monitor and I can see he moves about so much in his cot one minute he's at the top then he's at the bottom I'm just not sure how he will get on with a duvet. I know I will probably gave to bute the bullet and try it.

We switched to a toddler duvet and pillow at 17 months and it was the best thing we've ever done! We use it in a cotbed (sides still on) and its fine. I put it on sideways as DS tends to roll over holding on to it and ends up uncovered if its the right way round.

We had a few teething problems getting him to actually sleep with it, he liked to just play with the pillow and hide under the duvet, but the novelty wore off very quickly and now he sleeps better than he ever has. He looks forward to getting into bed and often doesn't want to get up in the morning. He gets himself so snuggly under it and now at 20 months has learnt to pull it up in the night if he becomes uncovered. He has also still not figured out that he could get a leg up at the side of his cot and tbh I don't think he'll be climbing out anytime soon.

I'd say give it a try and if she doesn't get on with it, try again in a few months time.

ETA: I put DS to bed in a fleecy top over his sleep suit incase he loses the duvet in the night, works really well.

My LO was 23 month old, we changed from a sleeping bag to duvet when we changed her cot to a bed.

We also had to switch around 20 months as she wriggled so much when getting in her bag i couldn't do it up without a fuss! We haven't bothered with a pillow as she tends to sleep on her side or front and seems comfortable without one, and the duvet we've tucked under the mattress at one end so it covers about 2/3 of her cot bed. The sides are still on but i don't think she's tall enough to climb out, when i see her try thats when they'll come off!
Anyway, we let her choose her new covers, she has robots and owls, and each night she's quite excited to go to bed so her 'robots keep her warm'! So cute. Mostly i find her asleep in the top third of the bed where there's no covers, but sometimes she wriggles back under. I tuck her back in when i go to bed. She'll get it eventually, i just make sure she has warm enough top half pajamas on!

I switched at 15 months, my LO was soo wriggly I was constantly finding him in all sorts of weird and wonderful positions at the top of his cotbed (sides on).

I bought a toddler duvet which came with a pillow and decided to try him at the top end of the cotbed (in the way that we would sleep in our bed IYKWIM) to see how he went.

He's MUCH less wiggly now as he can't move up the cotbed, I check on him 4-5 times before I go to bed (not because I worry but because I love to see him fast asleep) and he seems so snuggly and comfortable.

We've had no issues with him going down to sleep, wriggling under the duvet, kicking it off etc, he's been generally much more settled in his sleep since switching.

Hope that helps xxx

I introduced a duvet and pillow when we converted from a cot to a bed at 17 months. He started trying to climb out so I took the sides off and got rid of the grow bag so he could get in and out by himself. Best decision we made btw.

I find that even now he has a tendency to kick his covers off and not sleep with his head on the pillow. That's just the way he likes to sleep though if he's cold he will pull his covers back over but I always tuck him up before I go to bed

Pretty much, either just before or just after. We put him in a bed and he kept climbing out and falling over in his bag or getting upset because he couldn't get back in because of his bag. He's been fine. He's not half as wriggly with the duvet on and its always been on still in the morning.

My boys are 23 months and had duvets and pillows for a couple of months. Tom loves his duvet and pillow and figured out straight away how to pull the covers up. Hen sometimes does not have a pillow as it wakes him up as he can't get comfy but has figured out the duvet and sleeps better at night and for their sleep during the day.
